Comments (2)I sympathize with you and I see what our future might have been had we continued to use our fire place. We would get the smell and suffer with it for a week or so before it dissipated. We burned a lot of scented candles. More recently I bought a La-Tee-Da catalytic, scented, alcohol burner with the ceramic burner head. They sell similar ones in cigar shops for more than twice the price. We haven't had a fire since I got the burner, so I can't really comment but the cigar smokers I know all use these burners. I also stay long term in hotels where the smells are not always what you might desire. For those I usually buy a Glade plug-in type of device. They have a wick, heater, and a fan that blows the scent out into the room. I've tried incense in the hotels and that didn't work for me. I think it might have had I been there 24 hours to keep the incense burning....See MoreHow to get cigarette smell out of leather furniture??
Comments (9)I know this is an old post but since there is a current question about this, thought I'd share what worked for me. I had a healthcare worker that was helping with my Dad who I hired and didn't know she smoked. She was great except for that but she reeked so badly I could not even stand next to her. My DH found a larger version of an Orek air purifier we'd used before and we put it right by the chair she sat in and there was no more smoke odor!! Problem solved! (Worked even faster than the smaller one we had used before to get rid of paint VOCs) It was amazing. Room smelled of fresh outdoor air and was wonderful. Then I used the same Orek later on to clear cigarette smoke and moth ball smell from several expensive leather purses that I'd gotten a good deal on in eBay. It took about 2-3 days to get rid of both smells, and I thought I'd leave it a few more and I was pleasantly surprised to even have the smell of leather retur! Had I not known what to do, I would have had to trash them. And just recently, helped my sister with very strong VOC odor from a huge brand new cat tree that was about 6-7 feet tall. It was particle board and sisal and her cat was starting to get sick and was giving them headaches. It was in a room by itself and it had improved in a day and was totally cleared by day three or four. She was so impressed. So I've never done multiple large pieces of furniture, but it it can clean the smells from several rooms of the VOCs from new paint smells, cat trees, purses and chairs, it would probably do great with yours. I would leave it several days to a week but you should smell improvement in 1-2 days I would think. Oh, and I always put the side that pulls air in, towards the item to clean and not the side blowing out. The brand is Orek and no I don't work for them or anything. Just pleased with a product that worked on this difficult problem and sharing it. The larger one we got that worked so well for us is called Orek DualMax and it even has a small remote. If you try it, hope it works for you as well as it has for us, our family and friends....See Morehow do you remove cigarette smoke smell from wood furniture?
Comments (4)Vinegar is a very poor choice for cleaning wood. 1 - Wash ALL surfaces with warm water and a mild soap. Don't forget the underside. Use a toothbrush on the cracks. 2 - Rinse with water and let it dry 3 - Wash all surfaces with mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool or a green scrub pad. Wipe it dry. You should be odor free, grunge free, and ready to paint....See MoreHow to remove strong perfume smell from unimished wood dresser?
Comments (4)I had the same situation with a dresser. Nothing I wiped it out with worked. So I got a couple odor absorbing tubs, placed them in the empty drawers and every few days I'd rotate them to a different drawer. I left all the drawers cracked open maybe 3" - 4" because the odor absorbers work better with some air circulation. It took a few weeks but it did get the perfume smell out. I use odor absorbers in rentals between tenants so have tried several brands. (Note: these aren't air fresheners that mask odors, they actually do absorb them.) Natural Magic is my preferred brand and what I used in my dresser. And I use the gel form, not a fan of the beads. Citrus Magic brand is also good. Avoid dollar store brands, they are a bit less expensive but don't work as well in my experience....See More- 9 years ago
