Gmail question

DH got a security message from G**le Gmail that said "Edison Mail was granted access to your G**le Account. If you did not grant access, you should check this activity and secure your account".

I don't use Gmail so I have no clue about this Edison Mail, but I read something or other about it and G**le accounts p'ship so am wondering if it's something to be concerned about. Should he contact Gmail about this? He thinks he accidently clicked on something but can't remember.

You've probably already searched for this but google says this: how to remove Edison from your phone. If he doesn't have the Edison app, is he accessing gmail via the phone's browser? On an iphone you can clear cache and cookies on Safari which might help, clearing cache and cookies on iphone safari If using a different browser, google how to clear that browser

It's a scam.

I would suggest he change his password, block them and delete it.

Me again, after posting the above, my wife informed me she was not getting Gmail into her Outlook Express. I found the following at Gmail. I have yet to set it up so not sure it works. mike kaiser, A hacker can start an https session to break into a gmail account just as easily as not. I don't think it provides any security against hackers, it just prevents interception (by using encryption) when the session is on a non-secure network. For people on a secure/home network, no effect. I'm not certain and the preceding could be wrong. It's a good practice anyhow to have nothing in your email account that you wouldn't want in the hands of someone with bad intentions. That way, there's no reason to have anxiety about unauthorized access. You change your password, or in more serious cases, you set up a new email address, and move on with your life. People get so dramatic and fearful about such things, an email break-in isn't like a home invasion by a gang of 5 lawless bikers.

copy/paste image into Gmail?

I'm sorry, I'm not making myself clear. I'm wondering if I can highlight an image from a web page, copy it (right click/copy) and paste (right click/paste) an image into GMail the very same way I can do it in Thunderbird. I'm trying to avoid having to save the image to a directory and then retrieve it to post it in an email. Does that make sense? I may be asking for something that isn't supported in any way by Gmail. :) bob14, I might be misunderstanding GMail, but in my version there appears to be an alternative way to insert an image as long as I have enabled "insert image" in the labs (which I've done). According to the instructions I should be able to click on the "insert image" icon, click on "web address URL" and paste the URL of the image. The image should, then, show up in the email. That's what I'm not able to get to work correctly. Maybe the answer to my question is...no. Thank you both very much!

My son is a cyber security expert. NEVER click on a link like this. If he suspects that it is possible, log into Google directly and check that way. It is most likely a scam however.

That's what I thought. He is terrible at not paying attention to things. I swear I want to take his phone away from him and lock it up and allow him to use it only when supervised LOL!

I'll tell him when he gets home from work later, I'll probably have to figure out how to delete it for him. I don't use email on my phone so I'm not well-versed on how to do that -- I'll take any help you can give me...

The irony in all this is we were JUST talking about burglary this morning and how he thinks it isn't safe to keep passport in the fireproof case we have (grab-n-go if a fire...). Uh....yes dear you're basically handing someone keys to the kingdom with all the sh*t you click on and you're worried about a passport...AAARGHH!!

You can scan your passport and save it in a safe place in the Cloud, in case yours gets stolen.

mxk3, my sister is much like your DH, and it frustrates me to no end. She has ruined computers from clicking on everything that pops up on her screen, and still continues to do it. Her son, and I have admonished her about doing it repeatedly, and she says she won't do it anymore, but she still does. Her debit card has been hacked five times in less than two years, and she has no idea why. We are at our wits end with this woman and don't know what. I hope you have better luck with your DH.

I tried to delete the Edison from his phone last night -- for the life of me I couldn't figure it out, it wasn't showing up as an app that could be deleted under third-party apps, but every time I clicked on Gmail it popped up with an Edison sign-in page. I did figure out why DH clicked on it -- he clicked the Gmail app to sign into GMail and Edison popped up..he got the "YOU HAVE TO READ IT" lecture from me, but in fairness it really did look like he was signing into Gmail. And this is *after* I revoked its priviledges on the GMail security alert.

So, I just deleted the entire Gmail app from his phone and then I couldn't get it to re-download. ARRGH! After about an hour of fiddling and frustration and getting b*tchy with him, I told him I had enough, go ask your friends how to get it back. LOL! (surprisingly he wasn't mad, I think he knew this is kind of a mess).

But WTH is up this Edison? With his luck, he'll get the Gmail app back and along with it the Edison. Which I think is exactly what's going to happen -- when I went directly to Gmail sign-in through the web browser, Edison sign-in still popped up, I just couldn't figure out any way around it, but what was just strange is it wasn't showing up anywhere in the phone as something that could be deleted. If that's the case, he's going to have to go the phone store and have them figure it out.

Of course the company itself is going to spin itself as legit...

Why would a "legit" app insert itself into one's phone so sneakily that one can't figure out how to delete it? As in not showing up on third-party apps in the phone's system? Why would Gmail re-route automatically to Edison with no other obvious way in? Even after deleting the Gmail app? Nope, something's up with Edison and it needs to get gone.

Perhaps it wasn't as sneaky as you're assuming. If your husband is that inept on his phone, how can you be sure he didn't inadvertently click something to make it happen?

He did -- I thought I made that clear. The problem now is I can't get it off the phone and he can't sign in to GMail without it re-routing to Edison -- that is where I take issue and think something's shady.

He's going to have to either go to the phone store or contact GMail about it.

Oops - sorry I missed that.

Skimming their site, it looks like they're offering enhanced security features that cross platforms and apps, so not necessarily a bad thing.

Is this on Android or IOS?

If it's an app, as they say it is, you should be able to uninstall it like you would any other app.
