I find customers all the time who take getting three bids as gospel truth and never realize how important it is to deal with absolutes like plans, specs, or engineering. They are at the mercy of the bidders in how honest these contractors are in the way they do business. Some of these guys low ball their bids with the idea that Monday morning change orders can fix an underbid contract after signing. I tell people that a project is a short term affair and it's most important to do business with someone you can trust and get along with--not just the bottom line telling you absolutely nothing about your project.

No, don't learn a lingo. It's experience, and thats how you'll fail. Hire a competent Construction estimator to do THIS JOB. Facts and numbers are powerful reasons in any construction bid. Be Local, in this field as their expertise speciality, and it is worth every penny when comparing requested bids.
