DIY Tip: Master Bedroom Romance
How many times have you found yourself wondering around your own master bedroom and wondered how on earth to improve upon the ambiance? I have myself many times and until very recently the answer to that question eluded me. Soul searching, scouring magazines, and throwing out the normal standards are things that I had to do as we have recently begun to remodel our bedroom.
1. Soul Searching: What is it that you love? What makes you and your spouse feel relaxed, happy, comfortable, joyful? Perhaps a color combination, a unique object, a fabric, an heirloom? While soul searching myself I realized that what made a bedroom relaxing to me is a fairly monochromatic color scheme (all of the same color family), a smaller more cozy room with a large bed, and a room rich in texture: soft, warm, rich.
2. Scour magazines: I began to scour magazines, and websites such as houzz and anthropologie. As I did so, a common theme emerged. Simplicity, with elegant lines and a cafe au lait color scheme, with a hint of a morning misty fog and faintly coral hues...like a soft morning sunrise.
3. Throw out the Standards! This was a huge breakthrough in developing our master plan. We currently have our bedroom in a very large, over-sized master bedroom suite. Its enormous and feels stuffy, like we are under-utilizing the space. We have two perfectly sized bedrooms on the main floor and I have a need for an art studio. When I started to consider that the size room we both prefer is a smaller one, and that I needed a studio/family art room, possibilities opened up like never before! Suddenly by switching things around, we now have an art studio and a sweet master bedroom that is spacious enough for our needs, yet is cozy enough for a romantic rendevous! Ask yourself what can I do to think outside the box? Perhaps a different storage solution, a different color scheme, a different room altogether? Do you need a master bedroom, or could you use a smaller room and repurpose the larger one for a much needed space elsewhere?
I hope these ideas help you and feel free to comment below on ways you have improved your own master bedroom!

I love the rug...and closet as well. There is something peaceful about the lines and colors of the carpet. Notice the chandelier!
Again, I like the usage of storage here and compartments make for functional organization!
The designer of this room clearly threw out standards! Books overhead, a bed in front of the window.
Its the headboard...I have fallen in love.
don't know, but I love it!
its the cat...and the colors.
headboard...the texture...like a fine piece of chocolate!
The wallpaper in this photo is magnificent!
I like the concept of hanging chandeliers on either side of a bed in place of scones. Again, throwing out the standards!
simple, yet rich
My feet want to sink into this rug...ahhh!
I love the chintzy pattern mixed with the splash of whimsy in this photo (the lion).
Not overly fond of the heavy draperies, however, I love the soft lines and serenity of the color scheme.
Love the play and mixture of pattern and textures.
Instead of replacing the knobs on the painted dresser as originally intended (a handle) she replaced them with crystal knobs.
