I think so. It depends on whether they are healthy, on whether you can keep them healthy and happy in our tough weather conditions and on whether you can keep the spider mites off of them. Since the recommended fall planting date range begins July 1st, if I bought them, I'd pot them up into larger containers than they're in now, and since it is hot I'd go with 3 or 5 gallon containers. I'd water them every morning, and then check them every evening to see if they needed to be watered again. I'd feed them every week with a water-soluable plant food diluted to half its usual strength. I'd site them so they'd get morning sun and afternoon shade, or at least so they get shade during the middle of the day. I'd hold them in this situation for a week or two to help them get over being left in their current containers too long since they are 'leftovers' from the spring planting season. I'd start watching the weather during the last week in June and hope for a 'cool' day to come along near early July. Then on the evening before that cool day, I'd transplant them into the garden and water them in well. I'd probably put a cage around them right away, and then use clothespins to clip a sheet or tablecloth or someting over them to give them a break from the sun for the first 3 or 4 days. Some sunlight would be alright, but mostly you want to shade them until they recover from being transplanted. There are plus and minuses to being end-of-season plants, but in the case of the tomatoes, if they are healthy at this point, the pluses outweigh the minuses because they are a little older, a little stronger, have a larger root system and clearly have been well-cared for or they wouldn't still be alive right now. They are likely to adapt well and flower/produce fruit as soon as the temperatures fall back into the proper range. If you're going to go out of town for a couple of weeks on vacation and no one will be around to take care of them, I wouldn't buy them because in our heat, they need daily care. In May, I reached a point where I had to do something with my back-up plants. Nothing had died, so I hadn't had to use them to replace anything and they were getting way too big for the plastic cups in which they were growing, and they needed to either be planted or thrown on the compost pile. Well, clearly, I have a "more is better" attitude, so I squeezed in a new row of tomato plants in between an existing row of tomatoes and a row of pepper plants. I figured the worst that would happen is that they were too rootbound and wouldn't grow and I'd yank them and compost them. For about 2 or 2 & 1/2 weeks, they just sat there. They didn't grow at all, but they didn't go downhill either. I handled them as I described above, except they obviously were in the ground and not in pots, and then they finally started growing. Though still significantly smaller than the tomatoes that were planted at the right time, they neverthe less look good and are blooming, If the weather permits, they'll eventually set fruit. In fact, they look healthier than plants that went into the ground in early April, likely because during a lot of the time they were held in cups, they were shaded from the sun for half of each day. So, while planting them late was a risk, I'm happy with the result and glad I didn't compost them. If nothing else, in July when the adjacent row of pepper plants is getting hot, cranky and tired, this last row of tomato plants will be tall enough to partially shade the peppers, which is a good thing. So, my attitude is 'nothing ventured, nothing gained', and I'd give those plants a chance. dawn

Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Now I think i know what as going on for long time hidden from doc view. Electric shock adrenaline style

Thanks so much everyone for your words of support. Doctors are saying that she will probably be sent home today. Hubby thinks that's because they know more than they're willing to say. He's been looking at hospital / adjustable beds on CL for her. No worries on the keeping her home front. Hubby's family is Filipino and they have a very, very strong tradition / belief in keeping things at home with family (sometimes I think too strong but that's another matter). The troops are gathering and battle plans are being formulated. In the meantime, I now have more time to cherry-pick the things off of CL I want for our remodeling projects. It also means I have more time to convince Hubby that soapstone and marble for our bathrooms is a Good Idea.

Click on Thumbnails to Enlarge Them Hakone Gardens is just above and beyond Monte Sereno and Saratoga, satellite cities of San Jose. You take the California 9 exit west from the 17 at Los Gatos. The Gardens are on the slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains as the 9 winds up to Skyline, a road that runs along the ridges from the South Bay, all the way to San Francisco. Unlike San Jose's Friendship gardens which are administered by the city, Hakone Gardens has been restored by a private foundation with help from Santa Clara County's Parks and Recreation. It has more buildings and noteably, lots of bamboo. There are some steep climbs, but not far. Flowers are plentiful in the garden. Black Bamboo ... Sorry, it's out of focus and I should have gone back and reshot, but didn't. I have a fondness for Iris. The following flower has a very pleasant spicy aroma ... Shucks! The drinking fountain is out of order ... Rock surfing ... Plant Labels for new seedlings heh heh! Another Plant Label? And the Rock Surfer Dudes are still playing out the waves ... This old lamp not only lights the path ahead, but you can stop and fry and egg on it if you get hungry ... "I really don't know if they eat turtles, but I think we should hang out for a while until they go away!" This is definitely not Kyoto. In Kyoto, they still have the red buckets as a common sight for putting out fires ... An indication that cuneiform writing had its origins in the grafitti pronouncement of an unrequited love ...
