thanks for the responses. Funny thing is, that 2nd table is, I believe, a restoration hardware piece (?) and we found one used in the bay area, but couldn't get down to pick it up! Re: backsplash...there is a marble w/ some green mosaic that was popular on here for a while, but I can't find it anywhere...

its your dining table's fault. standard height is about 30", and yes you sink in some upholstered chairs depending how they are constructed. even though a 'normal' difference is 12" (which would mean a 19" chair for your table), if your bum (and therefore spine) are sinking below the wood frame you are getting less than the measured height. i'd rethink the felt sliders on the table, or else find straight chairs that can be custom made an inch taller. it doesnt matter what the ruler says... you know if you have that sinking feeling..... (we went through this.... fortunately we bought our chairs and table from the same store and werent able to try the sample chairs with our table. turned out the table was higher than all of their other tables. they remade the custom chairs an inch taller and i've been able to eat at the table without feeling like i'm 9.)

I understand. With these type of pieces the finishes do vary - and it’s not fun to have that, “we tried to match but didn’t“ look going on. That is one reason why my approach would lean toward finding an actual certified mid- century table and let the chips fall where they may. From what I see of the West Elm table, I think I would be concerned, too. But these are pictures... and also being viewed through various devices, and there is no way to know for sure unless you are seeing the furniture pieces in person. Hello! I need help finding the perfect dining table and chairs for my kitchen. So far I’ve purchased 2 tables (wayfair & Restoration hardware) they were beautiful but not exactly perfect. A few inches too short so my chairs wouldn’t tuck all the way in. Come to the conclusion 65 inches would be perfect... not I’m stuck on color. My first 2 were greyish taupe. Now I’m thinking of going more white? Posted a picture of my kitchen and then both tables that I ended up returning. Thank you!
