Kitchenaid Stand Mixer
Comments (116)WOW!!!! I was the original poster back in--------May 2002??!!!! Can't believe this is still going! For the "rest of the story"-----I never did purchase a KA stand mixer after giving it much thought, but ended up buying a very nice GE hand mixer which I have been happy with and for me, seems to be all I need. I use a bread maker just to knead my bread and then I shape the kneaded dough, let rise, and bake in the oven. Glad my original question has been useful for comment for so many others in the last 10 1/2 years. I really appreciate all of these forums on GardenWeb and have learned so much over the years from all of you....See MoreHow much to ask for 2 kitchenaid mixers (locally).
Comments (0)I have always been somewhat frustrated with my kithenaid mixers for a long time, and when I read that there are good mixers that solve the problems I have with mine (the big one is spillage, another is how lousy they are at dough), I started thinking about selling mine and putting the money from them in an account until I save up the difference to buy a different type. I have no idea how much to ask though. One of them is a refurbished pro model (with the suspended bowl) and the other is a tilt-head. Neither has had frequent use. The tilt-head has an extra bowl, bowl cover and a thing with a chute that is supposed to help clods like me get the ingredients in the bowl, but that I find completely useless. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have looked on ebay, but the prices people get are all over the map and there is also shipping to deal with usually, if I sell it on there....See MoreKitchenaid 5qt artisan stand mixer?
Comments (6)I'd love to post a picture for you, Red, but my spout is either packed away or thrown out, just like everyone else's. As I recall, it doesn't attach per se, it just kind of sits on top and makes a general nuisance of itself. I find pouring from a flexible cutting board works more easily and neatly. Perhaps if I say "no one uses it" a handful of people will show up to prove me wrong. As for the chip, unless it looks like it's going to chip more from that spot, it should be fine, functionally. Replace it if it bothers you. Good luck - with everything!...See MoreKitchenaid mixer: old vs new
Comments (20)I agree, that is a lovely mixer. I love the glass bowl and now I am going to have to see if they make one that fits my current mixer. I also hope to one day get a copper bowl for the mixer for egg whites. If I knew someone that would love to have a stand mixer and could not afford the expense, I would probably pass the old one on. My criteria would be somebody who I already knew liked to bake, not just somebody who thinks that maybe someday... It is hard for me to justify holding on to something and taking up storage for something that somebody else could put to use. Dcarch, thank you for the information about having the mixers greased. I really should have that done. The seal dry rotted on my first mixer and all the grease/oil came out. In retrospect, it was not a large surprise as I lived near Palm Springs, CA at the time where the climate is very dry and quite warm. We were having a difficult time trying to find a repair place so KitchenAid did a one time replacement, free of charge. That mixer was passed on to a friend who bakes when DH found a more powerful one with a larger capacity for a great deal....See Morefawnridge (Ricky)
