The warranty has run out on something is the one that cracks me up. I've never purchased a warranty.

For the last couple of weeks, I have been getting calls from "Account Services" and I never answer. No clue as to what account. They never leave a message. Sure sign of spam. I have also gotten the emails saying my account has been charged and it is usuallly for about $400+. I ignore. Never get any charge. Sheesh.

I train my mailer by selecting the spam message and opting to MOVE to JUNK. The emailer algorithm is designed to learn.

One way I avoid Spam calls on my mobile phone is to never use the factory default ringtone with anyone I know. Occasionall the default ring tone will sound from a new business number or someone purchasing an item that I trusted enough to give my mobile number to so that I could make the transaction,

To avoid ”butt calls” — always leave the keypad screen in view, before you leave the phone app. Then if you mistakenly bump your phone, it will select some meaningless value off the keypad. Usually my phone is left timed out/screen off and a password required. But from others, I’ve been gtreated to some background noises or conversation snippets (never interesting, too bad) when they have somehow bump dialed.

T-mobile weeds these out for me. It will tell me it's probably a spam call. If it's not they will leave a message.

I do have a spam blocker on my phone which is pretty effective, but these spammers are good a figuring out how to evade them. For maybe 2 weeks now, I get calls from all different phone numbers ( mostly NJ numbers, where I used to live and my phone # still suggests that I live there.) It's been a woman with a British accent saying "This is Danielle Green and I am calling you as you requested"

I think I've gotten that call now maybe 5 or 6 times, always from a different phone #. Comical.

I've also gotten a few of these emails. The first one I expanded the "to/from" window and saw that there were a TON (easily over 100) emails it was sent to. I skimmed it to see if the others were from my contacts but I didn't recognize any. Maybe this is how it gets around Google flagging it as spam?

I got an email last month thanking me for my automatic payment of $200 to renew Norton anitvirus, and it included a new code for me to enter to make the program work. The email looked legitimate (based on the sender's email address), and so I thoughtlessly wrote back and said to cancel the order.

Then I checked and discovered that I use McAfee instead of Norton on my laptop (I use Kaspersky on other devices), and I also checked my bank and found that no withdrawal had been made for the $200, and so I felt I was okay.

Normally I just delete these emails, but I was afraid that I actually did use Norton, but if I did, I was going to cancel it.

Lars, you got a good deal. When I got that email from Norton they had charged my account over $400! Maybe because our Norton really ran out in 2001.

Why pay for an AV package? There are free choices that work well-enough.

Yesterday I had a call from "Citibank". First, they wanted to verify my identity. Well...NO! I looked up my account and called Citibank. No, they had not initiated a call.

BUT...running the phone number, it seemed Citibank does assign cases to a collection agency using that number. (I did have a fifty cent penalty imposed on my last bill -- because the auto pay failed to work.)

Now IDK what to believe -- but I'm not worrying about it!

Just yesterday a friend told me she got a similar email from Norton regarding a renewal. She deleted it since she’s never had any connection with Norton.
