homestylelisa - since you have some nice existing wood blinds now, how do they look from the outside? Can you detect wood tones or do you just see blinds in general like colorblinds house? Window screens can mask colors and all you'll see is a similar window treatment. I think it will be o.k. to have wood downstairs and white upstairs. As someone else replied, the fact that they're all blinds will unify it all. I totally understand wanting to keep wood blinds that are still in good condition. I just replaced small metal blinds with the faux white 2" blinds and it was expensive for multiple rooms. I assume wood is more $$$. I didn't even price them as my painter advised that white wood blinds can yellow and warp. That may not be true, but I liked the Bali faux wood and the white shade was a perfect match to my trim.

I had roller shades in one place that I lived in San Francisco, and they had fringe at the bottom, which added a decorative detail that you could see from outside. You can attach fringe or some other decorative element to the bottom of the shade, and you can even attach it to the back side (if you want) to make it more visible from outside. Or you could replace them with Roman shades.

The bottom part of your window frame is the sill, This the part you see when the window is open and runs to the exterior. When water gets by your sashes you want it drain to the exterior as it is designedto do. The interior horizonta part of your trim at the bottom that meets the lower sash would be the stool, if it has one. Idealy this is slightly tilted so it drains water to the inside and prevent water from sitting on it.The idea is to prevent as much water from entering the sill and to drain water out that does enter it. Tilting the inside sill may not be needed but it is a nice touch.
