Talk me through this - tossing my old toys.
Comments (21)trilobite I have this mantra when I still get really stuck on tossing something I know I should, I tell myself "it's just stuff" and that helps me see it differently without all the guilt and emotional attachments (and it was hard work getting to this point and it sounds like you've been on your own journey). But the way I try to look at things now is it is all just stuff, some of it is useful, some of it is not, some is just passed its use-by date (that's the category I'd put these toys in) but it doesn't define who we are or our past or our relationships. honestly, whenever I give something away I let it go, if the person uses it, sells it, gets rid of it i dont care because by giving it away I dont control it anymore, so just like your mother giving these things to you, does not mean you have to keep them for her sake if they arent useful to you, that's not fair on you and your house is not a dumping ground for old hoarded items. If you mother asks "where are those toys I gave you for the baby?" just tell her you put them through the wash and they fell apart or something like that, no ones feelings get hurt and it's done but sometimes that's the only way to deal with guilt trips....See Morephilosophy: What are you most relieved to have tossed?
Comments (49)Don't bother about what MIGHT be valuable. My family is in antique/second hand business. When they don't know the value of an object they could sell they have a decision to make: keep it and research it quickly or sell it for more than they paid for it. Think about it. How many things are you going to store because they MIGHT be valuable? If you don't know it, how have you been harmed? If you really need the money then research it right away and sell it! I hope this helps. Meanwhile, I have a cute little cupboard that I have kept for 40 years!!! planning to "do something original" with it. It is now in the donations section of the garage. How time flies!!!!!!!...See MoreCan this poor old chair be saved??
Comments (8)Thanks everyone :) Course, now I'm looking at DIY vidoes. Um, yea..don't think I'm THAT handy. Mostly because of the style. If it was a simple chair cushion, I could maybe pull that off :) I even jotted down fabric and staple gun on my grocery list just now, LOL. It really would come out a sore, sore sight (worse then it is) Did I mention it's been in a pretty DARK corner? :) If it was the back that was such a mess, I could toss a throw blanket over it, and be good to go. I told dh we could just keep in there, and could keep using it as I have for awhile. To hold the towels I pull out of the dryer until I can get to them :) Maybe I'll advertise "free chair" on craigslist. If I do, promise..nobody post my link on one of those "I can't believe this ad" threads..ok??? :)...See MoreI'm selling this chair for $20. Question....
Comments (23)Its a moot point since its been sold but what if it would have been removed after getting offers for the posted price. Should it still be removed in order to sell it for more $. I personally think that's in bad taste. And could cause the seller to recieve a bad sellers rep. I'm sure a lot of us have seen this happen matter of fact I read about it either here or in home deco and the want to be buyer was understandably mad when the owner removed something so they could sell for more. Thats why its important to know what your selling and the going price before posting. I've never sold or bought online but I have things I'm considering selling so I can raise money for the boys Xmas. Think I'll do Craigs list and make it local. I'm not getting involved in shipping.
