Oxo Salad Spinner
Comments (7)My spinner (the larger model) is getting used also for the blanched and frozen waxed beans too. Its nice to fill a gallon bag, freeze, and then one 'whack' they are all loose inside gain. Sometimes my spinner gets 'out of track', and will sieze up while I push, but its ony if its heavy with stuff, like lots of blanched broccoli. I cut about 6 inches back from the head bases of the stems below the heads and slice these into 1/2 inch disks. They get an extra 30 second blanch and are all seperated flowerettes get bagged together. Right now, I picked a few tiny flowerettes and added them to my leaf lettuce along with some pickling cukes and a few radishes. All was enjoyed with my fat free, calorie free salad dressing. I had to tone the dressing down a little as the vinegar was a bit much. I jus added some more dried tomato powder and a dash of Splenda and that brought it up to a decent French type dressing. Have enough lettuce greens for about 6 whole meals of just salads alone. Where's those tomatoes??...See Moresalad spinner
Comments (12)You can do the same thing with an old washing machine. Take the agitator out (the center post) in the tub and and set it to spin. We triple rinse most of our greens and them put them in a mesh bag or we have this large mesh bag with an elastic top. Then once they have been washed, we put the whole bag in the washer and spin them out. Just remember to put the drain in a bucket or you will be water all over. We usually spin out 3-5 pounds at a time. You could do more, but we find smaller batches dry better. Jay...See MoreSalad Spinners Yes or No?
Comments (24)Has anyone heard of "Spin N Stor" lettuce cleaner bags? I saw a show last weekend about it. Sure would take up a whole lot less space than a conventional spinner. Below is a link to a video on how it works and here is the URL for the item on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Argee-Spin-Reusable-Salad-Spinning/dp/B000E8X302/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1242311926&sr=8-1 If I made more salads, I'd probably get the bags simply because I don't have room to store a big spinner. Comments (17)I have the OXO and love it. If I overfill it or the leaves are too big, the greens in the middle don't dry. With a normal load I usually spin two or three times with emptying in-between, and even tossing the greens a bit to let the middle leaves shed their water on the next spin. The greens aren't bone dry, but it's much easier than using a towel....See Morefoodonastump
