You don't like your existing rug? Too colorful?

Yeah, I just don’t think it is right for that area. Ends are fringed which don’t work with a door opening and closing often and I’m looking for a softer look and not so traditional.

It would be nice to have some clue as to the decor in the spaces next to this . This is the entry it should somehow connect to the interior spaces IMO

These are good suggestions but I was hoping to find something that was a bit more fun and out of the ordinary. No takers on the zebra? I thought that was a great rug…maybe my taste is a little 🤪 wacky but I wanted something kind of fun! Maybe I should have stayed that from the get go! Please continue to help me with other ideas!:)… I know the colors of current rug look good on that floor but I don’t want to use those colors as I’m trying to get away from that style.

Soft isn't zebra, but it's fun. Soft is harmonious. . Color is "'fun"

Thank you Jan, that helps me some. I do have trouble sometimes describing exactly what it is that I’m looking for. I love color, but I’m looking for fun! I have something very similar to the rugs you’ve suggested. It is pictured here in front of kitchen sink (I like it a lot here). I moved it from the entry way to try the traditional one. I’m leaving this one at the sink and decided I want new and FUN at the entry!

Try the zebra! It wouldn’t be a huge pain to return if it doesn’t work.

i like the zebra one. Check the Ruggable Jonathan Adler designs. I believe there is a fun leopard one too

Most rugs can be spot cleaned so buy one that makes you happy if the Ruggables don’t work for you. I think having a playful, unusual rug at your entryway is a terrific idea!

Have you thought about ripping off that bulky chair rail? I want to reach in and YANK IT with my bare hands.

It's really not necessary....at all, especially with the beefy crown and base. I could go for getting rid of gray walls too.

Thank you everyone (not sure how to TAG people here) for the suggestions. Red Ryder I adore the other options you’ve provided and glad to know others feel a fun rug is appropriate. I’ll likely start with the Ruggable zebra because I’ve been so curious over the years, that’ll get it out of my system, allowing me to consider these other beautiful options for other areas. Jan, the thought of ripping off the heavy chair rail never crossed my mind, but it is heavy! I feel it’s appropriate though maybe not necessary given ALL the wide mouldings in this house. We moved in about 4 years ago and still trying to make it my own. I don’t love the color of this hall (it is used in the body of the entire house) and have been thinking of fresh paint there. Three years ago we painted kitchen, living and dining room, - “SW Silver Strand” - although I used a SW color expert I think we didn’t quite hit the nail on the head. As you know, one thing leads to another and so careful selection of paint color in that area is important. Thanks again everyone, love all the help with ideas and your opinions! Red Ryder the last photo you posted that you said was wallpaper, also comes in a rug. It’s really nice looking! Paul F. I was wondering if you could tell me how you placed a new rug on my floor. This really helped me to visualize and I have a few other areas I’m working on in my home where that capability would be so helpful :)

One helpful hint for trying out rugs - buy the smallest size of the ones you THINK you like. They’re easier to ship back. And yes, learning how to “place rugs in your photo” is a great skill. I wish I had it too.

Does a dark green work for your hallway? I have a black patterned rug in my hallway - it’s kind of arts& crafts style. If you LIKE a runner, it will work. If it’s not in the middle of other open spaces (like a staircase) you can buy what you like. Is this a hallway with different bedrooms off it?

I use Photoshop but there are plenty of rug visualizers out there at different websites like rugs-direct.com

I have been thinking about getting some runners for one or two long hallways upstairs. One hall has bedrooms off it, the other does not. It is a good idea to bring smaller rugs home when possible. I did that a few years ago when there were samples available at a local store, that sure did help! Paul, thank you for the advice on tools to help visualize items in your own space. I was shocked this week when I asked a pretty big company to place a piece of their ARTWORK on my wall (I sent my photo, gave them measurements, and told them which artwork I wanted.) They replied with a rendering that did not use my room (wall, table, and windows looked different) and the artwork on the wall. While this helped some for understanding the SCALE, I lost all my color which was one of the reasons I asked them to do it. Thank you for all your help, I really do appreciate it!

Ruggable has arrived! It’s a dark day here… I didn’t want to use the same rug in front of each door in the hall so I ordered something of similar color. Pretty happy with the way it looks.
