Help Me Rearrange/Redesign/Reorganize my Home Office
Comments (8)Can the safe be moved over by the window on the right side? You want to make the most of the long walls for shelving as in your inspiration photo. Empty walls are always just screaming for shelving in my opinion! A desk that incorporates drawers or shelves and a flat space is always better than a simple table like you've got. Either a couple of filing cabinets or two cubbies that are table height will be a great base for the computer desk. I'd run that along the wall where the desk currently resides-I'm assuming the safe is in that corner out of the photo? Then put shelving up on that wall. You can get inexpensive brackets at the hardware store and they sell wood that you can either paint or stain, or melamine covered shelving in lengths up to 12'. They'll even cut them to size for you! A plain hollow core door would make a great desk top-they're cheap at the the Orange Apron hardware store. I always make sure that anything that needs to be plugged in, like the computer, printer, a lamp are closest to the outlets. My office/craft room is tiny but I have a nice wooden desk with drawers on either side, and a farmhouse type table across from one another. A bookcase on one end and a sewing machine table on the other. On the walls I've hung some cabinets I got at Ikea in the clearance section, on all other walls I've hung shelves to hold baskets, books, scrapbook paper, etc. My room doesn't have a floor to ceiling window but there are two windows which limit where I can put things. I haunt thrift stores for furniture I can paint or repurpose, baskets and containers to store things in. Luckily my town has dozens of them, plus a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and we're within an hours drive of Ikea. I've managed to outfit my office on a tight budget, also utilizing Craigslist too....See MoreDecorating above an off-centered bed with a bold duvet print
Comments (7)Thank you everyone for the fabulous feedback and ideas!! @Manon- love the way you incorporated a shelf & photos together, and B&W was definitely one idea I'd thought about. Great idea about putting lamps on the shelf as a space saver, too! @Oliviag55- great call on sleeping in the room a few times to get a feel for what it needs. I think I currently avoid it bc I feel bad I haven't decorated it yet-- time to face my fears! :) And totally true that what folks notice is above the bed and at the foot...thanks for that! @Olychick- thank you SO much for these photos. I love them all and it gives me a much better sense of what decorations above an off-centered bed would look like. The first pic is perfect and gives me a great vision to work toward. And, never would have thought about doing an accent wall in a more neutral color, but that is such a great idea!! I've got a color in mind and will definitely think about that! Thank you so much everyone!! I'll definitely post an after pic once I make some progress on the room!...See MoreOff centered double doors from the foyer
Comments (97)Also keep in mind that kids *may* use the powder bath on their way in from school in the afternoons. They will definitely use it other times (as will friends who are over), and as it stands they have to come back through your kitchen work zone to get to the powder bath. Access via the hallway would be a lot more convenient in the vast majority of situations for kids and adults alike. If you rework it a bit I think you could come up with a solution that accesses the powder bath off the main hallway. Perhaps a slight alcove for the powder bath door (so it's not quite so exposed) and a coat closet (since you don't have one of those). You might lose a bit of length from the study, but other than that it should be an easy change....See MoreHELP! Tiny Living Room with off centered couch
Comments (6)It doesn't look like there is much that can be done, however you could use drapery panels on both windows like you see here below: Or you might try some nice artwork in between the two windows: Perhaps you could paint the walls a lovely color as well:...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
