can this fixture be shortened?
So I snagged this gorgeous Chapman fixture for a song on Facebook Marketplace. The width is correct for my kitchen island, but it is still about 6 inches too long even after removing the entire chain. The wiring goes through one of the three poles that connect to the circle base. If I were to shorten the poles, then I think the entire fixture would be out of whack proportionally speaking. Unfortunately, my ceilings are 8 feet, so I don’t have any wiggle room. Thoughts? Just thought I would throw it out there to see if I was missing another creative solution. Otherwise back on marketplace it goes! Thanks for your advice. 😊

Comments (5)Mine are less than 24" by task lighting (they come as small as 9"). I have them installed on both sides of the island under the seating area. They were expensive but this company was the only tamper resistant plugmold to meet code here. I had to order them thru my cabinet guy since they didn't sell directly to consumers. Comments (3)To expand on snoony's advice, here's what a typical pocket door frame looks like: You'd need to detach the lowest horizontal members, shorten the vertical members by 4", then reattach the bottom horizontal members. Comments (11)I have the tools that can cut through a steel door. I know how to cut through it. What I don't know, is how to repair the cut end of the door once I have cut it. I don't want to buy a steel door to experiment on, only to cut through it and find out that it's impossible to repair. Can the part of the door that you cut off (ie. top or bottom) be reworked so that it fits back inside the cut end so that the void is sealed and the strength of the door remains intact (like I have done with a luan door)? I have never cut off the end of a steel door and I,m not sure how the door is made. Is it a foam core wrapped in metal? Does it have wood bracing at the sides and ends? 3 months agoDoubt it can be adjusted without the risk of ruining. It also doesn’t quite feel like a pendant for over an island. It’s such an important choice and maybe look on line for inspiration and if interested, post a picture of island if you’d like suggestions.

3 months ago… and then I freaked out and canceled the order 🤦♀️. Then I ordered this fixture in both black and antique brass to compare. My island is 87 inches in length and this fixture is 50 inches. I think that would work right? I have never been so bananas and indecisive on a project before 🙄.
