Flooring, Stairs, and general design advice DESPERATELY needed
Comments (14)Judging by how the home looks now. assuming nothing is changing but the floor, i would choose a floor with tones that will draw from both the front door and the dark stairs. Perosnally, i think a walnut would look magnificent. The issue with going grey is that nothing else in the house (stair, front door, etc) have those cool tones so it may be hard to make it work. See attached photos for floors i think would look great....See MoreStair runner dilemma
Comments (22)I think your installer is full of it trying to pass that off as "correct". Chicagoan's mock up clearly shows how it should look. No one would look at that and think 'the runner isn't centered on the lower stairs'. It's obvious the newel post intrudes into the space on those 2 stairs - your brain does not register that as the runner is off center. It's a re-do and I don't think this should be on your dime even if the runner has to be scrapped and re-purchased. If nothing else, your hand rail is on the right and most people will walk up the stairs closer to the rail so the placement of the runner now is dangerous....See MoreDoes this pricing for a stair runner sound correct to you?

If only we could go back and smack our teenage-selves around a bit. Knock some sense into ourselves. That would have been SUPER helpful!...See MoreStair Runner Design
Comments (3)I am generally on the warpath against gray, but since this will always be the first thing people see, at eye level, a gray runner will hold up really well. This house has a busy design in the entry, and you can see the gray stair runner has a subtle pattern that works...See MoreK Lewis
