Stair runner on prefinished laminate stair treads?
Comments (9)Best solution would be to remove the laminate nosings and replace with a hardwood nosing, and install the carpet runner inset. That would save costs on the nosings- as they are typically 6' long, if you are only installing 6-8" on either side of the carpet runner you could potentially do 4-6 stairs with one piece....See MoreStair/banister stain dilemma
Comments (8)After quite a bit of experimentation (luckily I had lots of room in to-be-covered areas), Minwax gel stain proved to be the best option. Varathane brand gel stain didn't seem to adhere as well, and Polyshades couldn't achieve a dark enough colour even in several coats. The key was to apply a reasonably healthy coat (or several) ONLY to the peeled areas, carefully wiping any excess off the surrounding areas to avoid darkening the existing stain and leaving a ring. The end result is far from pristine but it does a satisfactory job of camouflaging small imperfections until a full refinish can be done some years down the road....See MoreStair runner pattern reco for stairs that get wider at botttom
Comments (13)Thank you to everyone for your input! I wanted to follow up just in case anybody else is struggling with the same decisions I was with a curved expanded bottom couple of steps in an old staircase. Despite some of the recommendations above, I did go with plaid and I absolutely adore it. So it can be done, but to get the lines to continue to flow in a consistent way took a ton of planning and hours of labor. But I love how it turned out. Thank you again for all the help And suggestions!...See MoreHallway runner length dilemma
Comments (16)If you are wanting something that is less of an investment piece, look at this one. DD has this rug in a larger size in her hearth room. Although she has a couple of beautiful persian rugs in the house, she wanted something that would not be damaged by small children being small children (art projects, clandestine food and drink, etc). It has taken a load of abuse from 3 small children and one large dog and it still looks nice. It is thin and needs a good pad under it to help it look decent. The fringe is short enough that the roomba doesn’t get stuck on it....See Morecdurgs
