Need help with Hall and Stairway Runner
Comments (7)You have to be careful about starting and stopping before the very last step (actually the hallway floor) depending upon how thick the runner is. Believe it or not, neuromucularly your feet are "programmed" after each has taken one step up or down. You should actually be ok, the more problematic situation is when there is bare stairs and carpeting at the top: since it is a "higher" step, due to the carpet thickness it can trip you up sometimes. What could potentially happen here is that your food expects to meet the step before it actually does since the last step is "lower" due to the absence of carpet. If you notice this you could place an area rug at the top....See MoreCarpet runner help please
Comments (30)Sigh - did a bit of looking yesterday and my husband really doesn't like the sisal look, he wants something with a bit of a pattern. I told him that I don't care for the large floral pattern that seems to be the norm for stairs these days so am looking for a compromise. It was also a bit frustrating because the sales person kept trying to steer us to a low cut pile and said that would be fine on stairs. We did find a nice one in Shaw Caress line that had more of a linear textural pattern. I also quite like this one that I found on Houzz (linked below) but didn't see anything similar in the store. Hello from Brookside Julie! We are loving the new house and neighborhood. We have been to Bella Napoli several times, I recall you saying that it was one of your favorites. We went to Southside yesterday, our first stop. They were going to call us after talking to one of their dealers who carries a wool blend carpet, so we'll see what they come up with. Here is a link that might be useful: [anybody know where to find a similar runner?[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/fremont-georgian-residence-traditional-staircase-minneapolis-phvw-vp~4577709)...See MoreOpinions please - carpet samples for runner are in
Comments (73)I have talked to a couple of friends who looked "in real life" and a few who have seen the same pics that you have seen. And the verdict from people who know me is that while the tweed is certainly quite nice, the other is more "me". I do really really Iove the tweed and it feels amazing, but I am afraid that I have to agree. So, i have taken a couple of additional pics of two different sample which also show the wall color since it wasn't very visible in the others. I swear these are now the final two! Remember that they will be bound on the edges, so the one on the left would be brown, and on the right would be black. Votes please? So I can put this project to bed and move on to all the many others I have in mind! Maybe I should create a new thread for those who don't want to wade through tons of discarded options....See MoreHow to make a hallway appear wider
Comments (23)Coffee would be nice. We could talk about fixing up trailers because I actually managed to forget yesterday that we bought a little SWMH in Florida for vacations last winter. Built in 1962 but decorated a la 1970s Minnesota, and the Herculon upholstery's all in great condition. Good, because there's no money right now to do anything. Donating 40 years of the former owners' vacationer-fun flea market finds to Good Will did give it a whole new look, tho. :) Cadence, is privacy for the MBRM a big consideration? We're empty-nesters and were and are almost the only ones to walk down to the back. But maybe people use your back door a lot? You do only see the side table from the front unless you walk down there, so I was actually going to suggest centering it in the doorway as part of creating a view into the room. Also, would you be at all interested in leaving the MBRM window curtains open in the daytime--for free but powerful decoration? People are always attracted to light, and that and designing the side table wall for a view would make the hall inviting because its termination is inviting. For privacy behind the glass, tho, how about a nice drape to pull over? The hall in our extra-tiny trailer isn't so long, but walls here, as well as everywhere else, are cheap fake-groove paneling covered with genuine wood veneer in an attractive dark red-honey grain. That is to say, dark, but it's not dreary because the MBRM at the end has windows on 3 sides. Actually nobody notices the hall much at all--I think--because attention goes directly to the glimpse of the bright, sunny room at the end. Whatever. I do love the idea of opening up the office. A friend had actually suggested we do that for our 2nd "bedroom" in the Florida place since it's way too small and dark for us to ever want to be in there as is, but we're holding off now as it will give privacy for one visitor, whoever is least prone to claustrophobia. I agree your floor does look nice as is and happily has that widening diagonal grid. No accident, no doubt. Ours has dark moss green plush carpet, also in unfortunately and amazingly good condition. We have to look out the windows to confirm we're still in subtropical coastal Florida, not slipped in a space warp to Middle America 1975....See Moreerin432
