Can someone suggest a good white trim color for house exterior?
Comments (0)I have a south-facing house, colonial style, with a cedar shingle roof. I am painting the exterior BM Newburyport Blue (classic navy). Not sure if I should go bright white for the trim, or something slightly creamier. I get overwhelmed with white choices. My house is on a lake, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance....See MoreBehr White 52 with SW Eider White and Repose Gray
Comments (2)I want to use the white 52 as trim. Does it pull any undertones with these colors? Not sure what pull any undertones means exactly. But we know that White 52 belongs to the Green-Yellow hue family. It's very low in Chroma (colorfulness) and it has a Value of 9.26 which is the brightness that you'd expect with a color of white. Low Chroma, high Value colors of white from the Green-Yellow hue family like White 52 are often perceived as "just white" and appear neutral under a range of light sources and in various contexts. Eider White and Repose Gray have more Chroma and are darker than White 52; you'll get a nice pop of contrast. In terms of the colors relate with White 52, they're next to each other on the color wheel. Which means they go together. Not that that matters all that much because colors of white from the front half of the green yellow hue family typically go with everything because of their neutral appearance....See MoreWhat color white trim contrasts well with Behr swiss coffee paint?
Comments (6)I want to use Ultra pure white behr time color, so I can have some contrast but want to make sure the color hue family wont be off? Not off at all. Plenty of contrast in general but most importantly in terms of Chroma. Honestly, there aren't many colors Ultra Pure White doesn't work with because of its high Value and low Chroma. In a word, nuance. When we consider a color's lightness and colorfulness at the same time, that's called nuance and I think it's what makes UPW such a pretty color of white. Every brand (I think) has a color named Swiss Coffee. IMO, BEHRs is the prettiest. It's right on the edge of being an off-white and a light near neutral. I have a post about it here. https://thelandofcolor.com/swiss-coffee-12-by-behr/...See MoreBehr or PPG equivalent to SW a pure white
Comments (5)Behr rep says Berry Brown is similar? Depends on how you want to look at it. Not a short answer. Sorry. 🤓 Paint store people can only compare using a thing called Delta E. Delta E defines how colors are different in a certain measurable way. A Delta E below 1.0 is ideal. Bigger Delta E numbers means colors aren't very much alike. The Delta E for Berry Brown to Urbane Bronze is 6.33. Not great. The notations we use (below) are easier to understand #1 and second, they describe how colors look in terms of hue, value, and chroma. So, you can easily compare and decide where it's more important - to you - for colors to be similar: Hue, Value, or Chroma . FYI, the Delta E for Intellectual to Urbane Bronze is 1.6 A lot better than Berry Brown. But, Intellectual has less Chroma, it's more neutral, less colorful than Urbane Bronze. Berry Brown is more similar in terms of how colorful but it's darker in Value and not as close in terms of Urbane Bronze's hue family. It's impossible to do any kind of comparison looking at color online - especially true for darker colors. You have to get the chips/samples so you can compare and see if either one works as a dupe - for you. Another option is to ask for a custom color match. Which I rarely suggest. And I NEVER get into the weeds of colorants and formulas because there's nothing about a formula that tells you what a color looks like to a person. However, the rule of thumb for color matching is the closer to mud a color looks, the easier it is to color match. Because mud means more colorant. More colorant means more wiggle room to hit a match. So, I'd also get a sample of BEHR's color match version of Urbane Bronze....See MoreM G
