Lutron makes the whole stystem in colors to match alot of finishes that way it at lest does not have the white part .The flush mounts are awesome but I bet you not cheap. Is taht a wood face plate it looks really thick and heavy?

You would need all new veneer sheets from your cabinet company to do something different in matching wood. Settle for just replacing the actual outlet with something not screaming white. Their Desert Stone or Mocha Stone color might blend in better. Go to an actual electrical supply house. Not a box store. This is a simple DIY change.

This is what we used on ours. I didn't need an outlet there, but code required it, so I asked my electrician for the smallest he could find.

Ideally it would have been tucked in under that corner, but there was something in the way.

If your cabinetmaker has some of the matching veneer, installing the Flushtechs is possible. If you didn't like the costs of the Trufig, wait until you get the proposal for this.

Thank you for the good advice.  I ordered a bunch of colour samples from Lutron to find the best match.

I bought wood outlet covers from Kyle Switchplates with a regular square edge, had the J box set back a little bit and had the surrounding wood cut to fit the size of the wood switch plate. All and all lots of bits of labor and probably cheaper than Trufig but not by much.

These are taupe, they do make a medium brown that would have blended more, but it was not worth the slight improvment I would get to have to buy five new receptacles, switches or dimmers. The photo exaggerates the contrast.

Can you post pictures of the outlet from the front and side with the cover removed so we can see how the electrical box and its electrical outlet are installed in the cabinet?

Replacing the white outlet would do wonders. When we remodeled our kitchen in 2013, our electrician had 20+ colors of switches/outlets/cover plates to choose from.

I went to an electrical supply store and found that Desert Stone is the closest match. However,  the manager informed me that this colour is obsolete,  that they can't order it be a Lutron no longer makes these specialty colours. I find that odd. Anyone else have this experience? Does anyone know where I can order these online?

It seems Lutron does eliminate colors periodically. My son, who picked out all of our lighting, informed me recently that Lutron no longer carries the color we used in our backsplash, posted above in this thread. He also said, Lutron will do custom colors, though he has no idea of the cost.

You can find some obsolete Lutron Desert Sand items on ebay.

Search ebay for "Lutron DS". Note that many sellers think that DS stands for "Desert Stone" instead of "Desert Sand" so searching for Desert Sand doesn't return many listings.

Remove the cover and make sure the electrical box is flush with the cabinet. The outlet sticks out pretty far so maybe the box isn't flush.

The circuit appears to be 20 amp, not 15 amp (and with USB power) hence the outlet design:

Yes, Lutron discontinues and adds new colors on a fairly regular basis. They no longer make one of the colors I have in my house, for example.

Given that the outlet is white and nearby walls are white,, maybe the thing to do is to just buy a 98 cent white wall plate and forget about it.

I'm posting again to let out my frustration on this topic. We used a kitchen designer for this project and I found her totally useless! Everything in this kitchen was selected by me and she just said "OK" to everything. I'm frustrated that she didn't advise how to deal with the outlets so they wouldn't be such an eyesore. Ordering 2 new side panels and having the outlets routered so they sit flush is possible but also expensive! I'm just so annoyed and upset with her and the situation I'm in.

Are you saying that you removed the outlet cover and discovered that the electrical box (aka jbox) is not flush with the front of the panel through which the outlet protrudes?

I think what OP means is that current end panels the front edge of the J box is flush with the front end of the panel and then the wood plate sits on top.

The OP wants the switch plates to sit flush, similar to the picture I showed. This means the J boxes must be recessed slightly so that when the plate covers them the front of the plate is flush with the front of the panel, not sitting on top of it.

My J boxes in the picture are recessed from the front face of the paneling to the same depth as the thickness of the wood switch plate, so that the wood switch plate sits flush with the surface of the paneling.

Obviously I understand why you would want the flush outlets, I did it myself in this location and I did flush vent registered and returns in some locations as well.

But this is something that really needs to be designed at the outset not thought about at the end. And it's also something that 99 people out of 100 would never think about or would barely notice, so it's not an everyday thing with which most kitchen designers or contractors or finish carpenters will have much experience.

Every flush installation I did took that particular aspect of the project from minutes or hours to days. If you are just doing things the conventional way, you have a hole roughly the right size and you put a cover over it that's just a little bigger to cover the whole. Bang bang bang and you're done. When the cover needs to fit in the hole exactly, it's a much higher level of finish and takes a lot longer.

Every single outlet and cover we have is a beige-tone to relatively match the wall color (Behr Almond Mist). EXCEPT the kitchen island: cabinets are all maple with Chestnut Stain, and the island granite is leathered Absolute Black. The outlet is black. If you can't match the wood tone I'd do a lighter beige or off-white outlet and plate to match your granite. I agree those flush wood ones are awesome but I imagine $$$$$.

And what's your point? I know what I said. I didn't indicate it was "too much work" in my case. A higher level of finish may be worth the effort for the particular outlet, in the OP's opinion. Like it was for those three switch plates out of I don't know how many dozen regular ones in the entire house.

Update! Even though I was told Lutron discontinued Desert Stone and no longer made the specific colour I needed, I continued my search. I found a larger electrical supply provider, Guillevin, here in Canada, who was able to source discontinued stock directly from Lutron, no issues! I don't know why the smaller electrical shops couldn't order it? Here are pics of the Lutron Desert Stone wall cover and receptacles installed. Obviously a flush system would be preferred, but this is the best fix I could find.

My kitchen cabinet person (European cabinets) kept trying to brush me off whenever I brought up the question of where am I going to stick the one outlet that I am legally required to have in my island. When I wouldn't move forward until it was figured out, she was much more helpful. I totally felt the pain that you described with your kitchen person.

I am going to dig in further with your EXCELLENT suggestion of Flushtek. Three sides of my island are going to be stone, so I sure as heck don't want them cutting into that and screwing things up. I am sacrificing a top drawer (turning it into a false front). It is on the working side of the island, like yours. Not the spot I would prefer, but keeps in out of the stone, and I sure as heck wasn't going to drill into the top (although the options for the top are impressive given the location).

I truly don't understand exactly how they are mounted. So a guy with a dremel couldn't drill into your existing spot to make the outlet flush? Or was the opening in the cabinet that was already there the problem?
