Electric outlet in island drawers
Comments (7)The top drawers in my peninsula are 3/4" shorter heightwise and about 3/4" shorter depthwise than the space the drawers slide into, so I had room to run armored cable up through the back corner of the peninsula cabinet, along the inside of the back of the cabinet, up the corner, along the top above the drawer, to an angled clamp that passes through the 3/4" cabinet end to a short strip of plugmold that is run just under the countertop overhang. But of course as Weedyacres mentions that will totally depend on the specifics of your cabinets. If you have face-frame cabinets, I'd bet it was possible, maybe even easy. If you have frameless (like I do) it may be possible or it might require notching or otherwise modifying the cabinet or drawers....See Morepop up electrical outlet for kitchen island
Comments (9)Wow. The guys on that inspectors forum seem to take great joy in finding interpretations making something illegal. So you might have some trouble getting it past your local inspector and would need to ask beforehand. It looks to me like it should meet the intent if you had enough of them to match the standard fixed receptacle requirement, and if the UL testing covered the specific type of installation. I don't see why they are comparing this to an extension cord from another room. If the UL testing covered the flexible cord as part of the device, I see no added hazard. You aren't going to overload it, walk on it, or trip over it. Some of them even seemed to be ok with the safety of the cord, but wouldn't count it as meeting the requirement for a kitchen counter. Seems to me if you have the required number always available for use, how it is connected is unimportant....See MoreIsland Install w/Decorative Doors and one electrical outlet
Comments (0)Island cabinets are installed/secured to floor as well as to one another. 1/4" finish panels have been cut and dry-fitted but not yet installed (plan to use liquid nails, clamps and pin nailer to secure). I also have decorative doors to follow 1/4" finish panels (plan to attach from inside the cabinet using screws after clamping in place and pre-drilling, no adhesive). One cabinet will have an electrical outlet. I plan to use a jigsaw to cut the opening for the outlet. In considering that there are three different pieces (1/2" cabinet side panel, 1/4" finish panel and (?, not clear per specs)" decorative door center panel), and provided the decorative door does not cover the entire 24"x30" surface area (although maybe 95% of it) from a 1-to-1 alignment perspective, is it best to secure both the 1/4" finish panels and doors in order to make cuts as if a single piece of wood rather than three individual pieces of wood? Note: I am obviously not a professional and literally the tougest cuts that I have made with a jigsaw were only done recently to cut scribed filler strips....See MoreDo you think I can fit an island in my current 11 x 11 kitchen?
