Women in Manitoba gathered early in the 20th century to ask for voting rights, to give them the right to run for office and to sit in the Manitoba Assembly. The Manitoba Election Act was accordingly amended in January, 1916, and this became the first province in Canada to grant voting rights to women. Last August I saw this plant growing along the highways in my area. I found it very interesting, as every stem comes from the roots, with no offshoots from any of the stems. As I saw them every weekday during my commute, I started seeing them closer and closer to home. An online search lead me to believe it is called "Telegraph Weed". It does grow very tiny, insignificant flowers, but it's the shape of the leaves and it's growing habit that draw my eye. They stand about 4 feet high. And what exactly is a weed? I like this definition: A weed is simply a plant out of place. By this definition, any plant could be a weed if growing in a location where it is not wanted

I know I'm a day late but wanted to share this. It's my dad's brass stamp holder from his office desk. It held a roll of 100 stamps. He died in 1986. He was only 60. I miss him, what a character he was.
