Cruise ships in Long Beach Harbor. Picture taken with telephoto lens and enlarged. Cruise ship passing by Catalina Island. Avalon seen in the mists on the right background. Again, taken with telephoto lens and enlarged. I'm excited to finally have a camera that can take long distance pictures with some clarity...still fuzzy...but at least the subjects are visible. I only wish my phone camera pictures could be enlarged like this.

I've read about medlars, never seen one in real life though. The book "Uncommon Fruits Worthy of Attention" said that medlars must be bletted (meaning, softened and a bit fermented maybe?) before being eaten. Then they taste of cinnamon apples. Again what I've read not what I've experienced!

I have an aunt who blets medlars. Every time I hear her mention bletted medlars, I can’t help but think of the name Bette Midler.
