hi. first, are the yellowing leaves near the bottom? if so, don't worry too much. this is pretty common. also, you should maybe cut back on watering (not enough so they'll wilt but not excessively either) and try to water the foilage itself as little as possible. i planted mine a month ago - they have nearly reached the sky but no flowers yet. when they flower it should be amazing (i hope) and will post a pic. i used a huge piece of the wire grating (?) stuff builders use when pouring cement sidewalks, cut it with metal cutters to fit an arch in the side wall and the foilage is just filling up like mad. i too have a few yellow ones at the bottom but just leave them. also, i planted a variety (from seed) of purple and orange ones according to the pic on packet (ipomea mixed compositae) from seed to just wanter around the garden and am waiting to see the results! let us know what is happening with yours. good luck dory

We found the culprit today. It was a rat. Yesterday I pulled out the remainder of my pik-up-stix morning glory after the new leaf at the very tip top of the obelisk was removed on Friday night. Today my dh noticed a hosta leaf laying behind the acuba. This is on the way to the dry, empty, protected space under our stairs. He looked underneath and found much leaf litter, and rat feces. When I returned home this afternoon I looked under the step, and there she was, sniffing and nibbling. The hosta leaf was the only sign of anything amiss in our small garden. No other leaves laying around, no rat poop anywhere. We pulled out our recycling station and found a few pieces there, she ran behind it to get back to her hidey-hole. Upon inspection we see that she has now started nibbling the hosta and hydrangea leaves. She is only active at night, we have never seen her during the day. The live trap has now been activated and baited with peanut butter. I plan on releasing her in the gulley a block from our house.

Hi gratefulgardener - It sounds like the Morning Glory you have is Ipomoea indica... Check it for aphids and spider mites...otherwise a dose of 20-20-20 might do it some good...Ipomoea indica likes to be watered... TTY,... Ron Here is a link that might be useful: Ipomoea indica in the PlantFiles

Yes, MG do well in direct sun. . . but when it gets too hot the flower closes. (I think thats why) maybe they close later in the day because they are MORNING glories. . . I grow mine in full sun until about 1 PM then they are in bright shade and this particular spot seems to make them happy, the flower doesnt close. I don't start them in pots, I simply poke em in the ground a few inches. I do this as soon as the ground thaws from cold winter. They are hardy lil buggers. I have new MG seedlings every year that made it thru our winters and grew beautifully. I agree they look a little stressed from being grown inside (not enough light) the transplant stressed them and now a shock due to the direct sunlight. If you do plant more seeds they will live happy in with the weak ones. Im guessing in due time you wont even know which ones were suffering. Welcome to the world of gardening AKA trial and error.
