My cosmos bipinnatus seems to be on strike.

It’s nearing the end of summer here in Sydney (warm temperate) and I’ve not yet had a single flower on my cosmos bipinnatus (Sensation) plants. They just get taller and produce strange formations where you’d expect flowers to be. One gardening friend had the same situation and just pulled her plants out. Another gardening friend’s cosmos b. plants have been flowering all summer and she’s pulled them out anyway. My plants are in full sun and ok soil. I’ve got pentases, pelargoniums and dahlias flowering well around them. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a virus?
