Very Narrow Galley Kitchen - Peninsula vs. Island
Comments (23)IF you decide to go with a movable island, you might also check your cabinet line. Some of them have movable islands that you can get to match or complement your perimeter cabinets. I know, for instance, that KraftMaid does as my KD showed one to me when she was trying to talk me out of my mini-peninsula...she thought it would be more useful. [I love my mini-peninsula, btw! It protects my cooktop and has become my Baking Center.] I'm someone who went from a small "L" shaped eat-in kitchen to a 2-peninsula kitchen and I definitely do NOT regret it...as a matter of fact I think I gained an amazing amount of counter space, in particular...and I then had room for a Prep Sink...all pluses! There is a lot of anti-peninsula sentiment on this Forum, so you will probably not get much support for it. Most people (not everyone growlery!) prefer islands...stationary or movable. If you go w/a stationary island, I don't think 36" is a big enough clearance on the sides...I think 42" minimum, preferably 48". There will be a lot of laundry basket carrying through there as well as, I think, the traffic from the back yard (I can't tell for certain on this point). I'm guessing there's no garage so groceries will be coming in from the front door (is that correct?). You also need to have enough room to carry those groceries into the kitchen....See MoreHis/her wall closets and tiny master bath OR bigger bath/ 7x6 closet
Comments (8)I would opt for bigger bath and one shared closet. Would overall be less cramped for space. If you do the closet with a wall closet system with various drawers and hangers there is more than ample space for you both. If not, then you have too many clothes. In my closet I have 3 drawers and a hanger above those in multiple areas, then I have hangers for long clothes, and we have corner shelving and shelves for storage on top. Lots of space. Shoe rack on the floor under the long clothes....See MoreAnother Long Wall Dilemma Post
Comments (27)I really like it! There's a somewhat consensus here that "public" areas of your home shouldn't have family photos but every area of my home "public" or private is still my home. I think what you've done is great and being reminded of your travels and loved ones enjoying life should be shared and reminded. Your life should be all around you, not in a book on the coffee table or relegated into a hallway. I think the dark framing is a little heavy and I'd play with the right to left center/balance. Looks like happy times, enjoy!...See MoreRemodel Bathroom and Closet right-size dilemma
Comments (2)I never want a closet access to be through the bath room and when you post options they need to be to scale plans with all measurements marked clearly What is the bottom plan? I hate toilet rooms they waste space and no one should use the toilet while someone else is in the bathroom. You have ahuge space but I think making the clset where th window is and running the bathroom next to the other bathroom would be my choice I love my window in my walk in closet and honestly with good lighting a bathroom does no need a window but it does needs good venting. I think I would eliminate the sky light since it is in a weird position ....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
