Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?

thank you guys for even reading my wordy post! and for responding with great/helpful ideas ;) i fixed the google sketchup drawings with correct wall height. alx and lzgdns - i'm not married to an accent wall, but dd wanted bright pink walls and all 4 walls = approx 713 sq feet of azalea pink! good info though, that focal wall has to be focal for a reason. i was trying to do a satisfying dose of pink for her, without losing the light reflectivity of the other walls, and trying to make the dingiest north wall/ceiling area look crisp white by contrast. the ivory on upper half of room now looks greyish-ivory "BM faded orphan dress" thank you for the paint color suggestions, especially on dealing with the northerly light (and website) purply-pinks clash with the carpet for sure. the color dd keeps coming back to is behr's springtime bloom - lol - fun job to name paint colors - BM peptobismol SW benydryl tablet pink FPE chalky calamine lotion would you really paint the ceiling pink too? there is no flat ceiling, it's all on a slope. that's exactly why we want the loft for her - cozy book nook, place where she and her friends will want to be as they get a little older - we wanted the area underneath it to have maybe a desk, storage, bookshelves too - something that i really worry about is that since the light is northerly, putting a loft on the far wall would actually pretty much lower the ceiling over both windows. this has to reduce the amount of light that gets reflected into the rest of the room, making it feel even darker. i Love beadboard, but i have been feeling that it's too out of character with the house to look right. my mil has the similar contemporary 1970s style home, and she has spent years gradually colonializing it - colonial wallpapers, paint colors, furniture. the overall effect is ODD. cottagy finishes in a room with an 15'high x 19'long wall -is it possible? crash&suero, you've both gotten me thinking, corner loft! a triangle wastes a lot of floor space, but a square works maybe? instead of across the room - because the shortest part is useless anyway - the one i drew is directly under the skylight, and has lowest ceiling height of around 4'5" like a staircase but that would take up a lot of space/$, for now i think ladder is best option? i also like that it breaks up the enormous expanse of wall. no kidding if i had a ds instead of dd, i'd do a mural of niagara falls, put fake boulders at the bottom, hang some barrels halfway on hte wall for bookshelves, decorate his bed in lifejacket orange and be done ;) Did another sketch! Loft is around 5' by 8'. Wasn't sure what size it should be but this doesn't block window, and is a golden mean ratio ;) added ladder. hope it makes sense visually. Any thoughts? the wall is pink for fun, will try other paint suggestions too ;) pink does not match actual paint choices. thank you so much! Sis, I've got the Adair bedside lamps in antique white in the other queen bedroom (see pic). BM Palladian Blue is very popular. I looked at it, but decided against it because I felt it is too light and minty for what I wanted (trying to combine beach and farm!). I think that, if you're going for a farmhouse look, pewter and mercury glass are not going to achieve that, esp. with Palladian Blue on the walls. I'd go with the bronze, or wrought iron. I also think the bronze will be better with your Adair antique white lamp. Silver will make the room look more contemporary and blingy. FYI: the blue in my room is SW Languid Blue. Blue in the room in the pic below is BM Nantucket Fog. If you were to paint your room to achieve that look, I'd go with BM Van Courtland Blue. The Languid Blue is very similar to the VCB, but it has a radiance to it that VCB doesn't have. I go back and forth as to whether I should have painted it VCB. Only reason I didn't is because I already have two rooms done in VCB, one of my favorite colors, and I guess I felt like it would be VCB overkill to do yet another with it. Antique white Adair bedside lamps. Notice they're on white tables (I guess you can see only one. The other is also on a white bedside table). So I put the dark ones on dark bedside tables and the light ones on the white. So yes, I obviously think the Sutter lamps would be great on your black tables. (and yes, I know the blue in the bedspread doesn't go at all with the blue of the walls. Meh).

@Flo Mangan sorry for the delayed response. I now have the measurements to provide. The room measures roughly 20 feet long and is 17 feet wide at the widest side, where the entrance is. But the rest of the room is slightly more narrow. The patio doors measure 6.5 feet wide. I don’t have the window measurement but I want to say it was about 2 feet wide. I’ve attached the completely amateur measurements I took the last time we were in the house, and also another photo of the room from a different angle.
