Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of Sept 3, 2023
Comments (16)I'm glad you are taking pics and recognizing the great progress Funky. It is so easy to get discouraged, but we need to reflect sometimes and be proud. Lots of changes and consistency have gotten you those results. They didn't just happen. I'm going to take the questions this week:) How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle changes this holiday weekend? Not bad - exercise is seeing me through at this point. What are your goals for the coming week?- no bread, no potato chips. I have been so lax with these foods, which are really a downhill spiral for me. I'm going to go cold turkey on these two. What are you working on improving? - Getting my food choices back in line. Are you pleased with your progress? - I have been at a weight loss plateau since November of last year really. But I am glad to have kept the weight off and stayed active. I have really made activity a big part of my life and I think that has been key to keeping my weight in line for now. What are you especially proud of? Being active every day and trying things physical things outside my comfort zone - yesterday we went kayaking. Not particularly physical, but still, some weight loss and confidence in being in better physical shape has led me to say yes instead of no to things I have really ended up enjoying. Like @gsciencechick - I am trying to take advantage of opportunities. I get stuck in a rut, so I am trying to say yes more often. I haven't regretted it yet. But it is not my normal MO....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/3/2023
Comments (15)I have been busy unraveling some medical mysteries…so annoying and somewhat stressful. Today I finally saw an ENT for a sore throat I have had for 3+ months. Something about a sore throat, for me, says ”you’re sick” or ”you’re getting sick” so it has really kind of messed with my head and my energy level. Anyway, I was diagnosed with larygopharangeal (sp?) reflux, or ”silent reflux” and start taking meds tonight. I will be so happy if it works! I have no heartburn or any other stomach symptoms, just the sore throat. Meanwhile (I feel so old) I have had a foot issue that the podiatrist thought was bursitis, tried 2 cortisone shots with no result, now doing PT and he thinks it’s actually a trapped nerve. It is just another minor annoyance and doesn’t affect my activity except that it’s hard to get motivated to exercise when you wake up every morning with a sore foot. We will be away again this weekend visiting DS but DH and I have both agreed that next week we need to re-start our healthy eating routine and maybe even start ”dry January” a couple weeks early (making exceptions for a few holiday gatherings). We keep trying to establish a routine of walking 1/2 hr after dinner every night but it is reallly hard to start that up when it’s cold and dark! We should have started in the summer so it would truly be a routine by now....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/3/2024
Comments (16)yum, GS! I so love halibut! I haven't been keeping up with the thread this week, my apologies! I am doing ok-- keeping on, as they say. One major misstep was picking up an irish soda bread -- a fav. I was not as restrained as I thought I would be. Good thing it was a small one! Otherwise I have maintained a pretty healthy diet. The grazing lunch plates are working out well ... they are especially good when I would otherwise skip lunch due to meetings or the need to get something done. They are easy and I can eat them as I am working. A lot of people like to do meal prep and assemble them on Sundays but it works pretty well for me to assemble them as my coffee is brewing in the early morning... then they are just ready to grab come lunchtime. I have been struggling a bit with body dismorphia ... probably because I have been basically maintaining since Sept. I look at myself and just don't see the losses I have accumulated... so when I ordered a pair of shorts recently, I ordered a higher size than I should have. No big deal, I can exchange them-- but it was a warning flag that my body image may not be accurate. I think maintaining a positive body image will always be a struggle for me and something I need to work on more actively. Definitely looking forward to more light in the evening! It is rainy and dark today but need to get out and active. I've only done so once this week so far! Sorry this is a delayed response but Jococo, glad to hear you are making time for self care! Hair appts always help me-- not only do I look better, but I love those 2 hrs at the salon that are all about me!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/24/2024
Comments (26)Jojo - I am sure you are experimenting this week and I hope you find some successful foods. I will say, oatmeal is the first thing that gets either skipped for breakfast or modified a great deal when people first start wearing a glucose monitor. It is known for its sudden glucose spike. Accompany that with two pieces of toast and the sudden spike followed by a sharp fall could certainly have you feeling that way. I do best with fat, fiber and protein for breakfast, but sometimes I will have oatmeal. But only 1/3 cup mixed with 2 T chia seeds and some cinnamon and walnuts, along with breakfast chicken sausage for protein. I'm trying very hard to minimize my processed food, and it is so hard for me. I really do enjoy eating out and snacking. I need to cook more, but it takes so long :) And I can never figure out what to make. Today I thought I was doing well, but I still had a Papa Steve's Bar for breakfast and Masa chips with my avocado. Now, technically papa steve's has no junk and the Masa chips are made with beef tallow instead of seed oils, but they are still processed in some manner. I will keep trying to eat more whole foods! I am very good with fruit and nuts, so there's that :) I have been walking this week and got in several hours of pickleball and one strength training workout, so that part is going well. The podcast I listened to today said 20 minutes 3 times a week for strength training, and after that the returns start to diminish. I can do that - 20 minutes is nothing in my day. I am going to try harder to be more consistent with that....See MoreRelated Professionals
