Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/4/2023
Comments (15)Also got food poisoning in NOLA, so I totally understand. We were there for the college football national championship. My friend and I had the same lunch except she got chicken gumbo, and I got seafood, and a few hours later I was vomiting, and it was game day. I made it to the game and drank ginger ale. That would have been horrible to spend that much money and miss the game. Luckily, our seats at the dome were on an aisle and near a bathroom. But I was feeling better by game time than the afternoon and then luckily for the long bus ride home the next day I was OK. But yes, I have an aversion to gumbo now. Also still haven’t done my decorative flowers! This week is supposed to be good weather, so I should be able to go out and get them. I will do the front planter box, hanging baskets, and some general pots for the deck. I did a Pilates reformer small group class yesterday so it was good to be back for that. I need to re-up my private sessions. DH bought me a gift certificate for my birthday, but he bought the group classes vs. privates. With the new studio, she has changed the class offerings, and he doesn’t really know the difference between a class pass and private session. So, I have over 10 class sessions but now 0 private lessons, so I will need to buy another package. He is actually intrigued by the Reformer, so maybe he will use one LOL. But I have to start somehwere with him with basic strength training. He just had his physical and everything is great—cholesterol, A1c, PSA, etc. But yes, after having alcohol more days last week due to travel and my birthday, I am ready for another dry period. We have Peter Frampton tickets at the end of the month, so no need to have any alcohol until then. We picked the rest of our lettuce from the garden since it was getting near the end, so lots of salads this week. I ordered the Oikos protein yogurt with my online shopping order yesterday, so that will be a good afternoon snack. I tracked my food as best I could but it’s a huge educated guess when dining out. Zumba today! Have a good week, everyone!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 6/25/2023
Comments (20)Oh gosh, Pricklypear, I am so sorry you are still ill! Glad you are starting to feel better but hope you can clear it out completely soon! I am second guessing the rower-- more than a couple people have told me that it is HARD. My sister said that it may work for me because I was a competitive swimmer years ago but still have a lot of back strength ... but 1/2 the people who have said it is hard are men who are much stronger than I am. I definitely want to give it a try before i spend any more time shopping for one. I had a very eye opening experience this week. I bought a pair of sunglasses that I had tried on 3 yr ago ... I had taken a photo of me wearing them so I scrolled back through my photos and OMG. I was sooooo much heavier then. I keep saying that I just don't see my losses--especially in my face-- but I was blind and probably in some denial. I was tempted to share a photo in case it would give someone else some encouragement -- but honestly, I can't bring myself to do it. I AM 73 lb lighter. I don't yet feel the pride in that ... I am still working on the disgust (after the fact lol) of how bad I had allowed it to get. unrelated to a healthy lifestyle, here are the sunglasses. The chain on mine is silver-- as I already have sunglasses with gold detailing. They are my first BIG sunglasses. They got a huge thumbs up from my sister....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/16/2023
Comments (20)Here I am bringing up the rear - seems to be a pattern for me most weeks! I applaud all who have lost weight no matter the amount or the length of time it took. The older we get, the harder it is to take off those stubborn pounds and I really appreciate how hard everyone is working. It doesn't go along with the calorie/weight charts, but I find that if I consume more than 1200ish calories per day I gain. To lose, I have to drop my intake to about a 1000/day. Exercising helps a bit, but I think it keeps us healthy more than it helps us lose weight. At least for me that's the way it seems to work. Funky, I know it's a few weeks off, but enjoy your vacation and be proud of how much you have lost. That's a lot of hard work you've done and you should pat yourself on the back. Bunny, I did Invisalign a few years ago and it took a couple of months before I noticed any difference in how my teeth look. But, I knew it was working because my teeth were always sore for 2-3 days after getting new trays and I could feel the gentle pressure the trays were putting on my teeth. The original plan was for 18 months, but at the end of that time, my dentist decided to go an additional six months. It was all worth it as I now have beautiful straight teeth and I feel so much more confident when I smile. During the time I was wearing them only one person noticed and commented, but she was someone who was considering doing it herself so she was tuned in to them. As far as not leaving them in as much as recommended, I wasn't always diligent. I like to drink tea in the mornings, and because I'd been told that tea would stain the trays and my teeth, I'd leave them out in the mornings so I could enjoy tea time. In the end, I don't think it mattered; I got the end result I was after. We were out of town last week, and despite my best intentions, I did not get much movement in. We were in the car for several hours a day each day and when we did stop for the day, it was so hot (triple digits) I just could not bring myself to move around. I tried to be careful what I ate, but when out of town and eating out, there are so many temptations. I don't think I gained any weight, but I felt so bloated when we got home. After getting back on my regular routine, I'm feeling much more myself. I hope all of you have had a great week and that next week is even better! :)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/10/2023
Comments (18)I felt lousy for over a week, just today feeling pretty much like myself (so far). Tested negative 3x for covid and never had a fever. Just headache, intermittent sort throat, fatigue. This has happened to me for years. I will randomly feel run down, that ”I’m getting sick” feeling without ever getting truly sick with anything diagnosable, usually just for a couple of days. I mentioned it to my PCP a few years ago and some tests were done. All fine. I do tend to run slightly low on B and iron, and when I had long covid a couple of years ago I was borderline low so the dr recommended supplements. I have dropped them since, but I think I'll start again. The iron I have taken is this liquid that tastes like garbage but doesn't bother my stomach. I was getting a little worried about my upcoming trip so figured it couldn’t hurt to add this back into my routine until I leave. Funky, apples are so great right now! I have been having one every day, often with almond butter or as a ”side dish” with my scrambled eggs. I find that they feel more like a treat (and take longer to eat) when I cut them up. Oh, and sometimes sprinkle with cinnamon. My bday is next week and I am already planning a ”good eating week” interrupted briefly by dessert that night when we go out to dinner....See MoreFunkyart
