Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/2/2023
Comments (34)G'morning! My apologies for not being around; we have been busy with 4th of July festivities. I want to take a moment to thank jill302 for her kind words in the last thread. I had mentioned that my knees were hurting and she wished me well. So, "thank you, Jill!" - it was much appreciated. As far as beauty goes, I think every single one of you is beautiful inside and out, even though I've never laid eyes on any of you! :) It's interesting that being beautiful has come up in this thread. I was sitting in a bar over the weekend having a beer when the 20something woman sitting next to me, turned and said, "you know, you are really beautiful." Let me tell you, my soon to be 65 year old self was shocked! At first, I thought she was pulling my leg in a mean spirited way, but after chatting with her for a few minutes I think she was sincere. Even if she was not, I'm going to take it that way. Over the weekend, we were at our vacation home and it was very hot. 106 on Saturday and it stayed in the triple digits the entire weekend dropping to a cool 101 by the time we headed home on Tuesday. Having moved to a much cooler climate a couple of years ago, that was a real shock to my system, but I did manage to get a walk in every day that we were there. They were much shorter than what I usually do, but at least I got out there and got moving. Food wise, I did ok. We had bbq ribs with potato salad, but the other sides were watermelon and corn. I stuck to my smaller portions and had only one rib, just a small serving of potato salad, half a cob of corn and a couple of slices of watermelon. The worst thing I ate over the weekend was a slice of pecan pie from the ice cream social held by the local church. But, the pie is a yearly tradition and I wasn't going to deprive myself of that. I didn't eat it all in one sitting; just a few bites on Tuesday, a little bit yesterday and I still have half of that slice left. I did drink more beer than usual, but we were having a good time and I'm not going to beat myself up over that. Yesterday, I was back to my regular walk and I'm about to walk two miles to the farmers market to buy peaches and strawberries. This morning, I tried on several pairs of pants that did not fit me last week, but they fit me today (and not just that I was able to button them, but they really fit) - yay! What prompted me to try them on was putting on my regular jeans this morning and noticing that they were quite loose around the waist. Loose enough that I needed a belt to hold them up. I feel like I woke up slimmer this morning; does weight loss happen over night? Anyway, I'm quite happy with how the week and weekend went. To top it all off, hubby and I had a wonderful time together so I'm in a great mood. Funky, I'll chime in that I have a friend who uses the trekking poles for hiking and walking around her neighborhood. She doesn't have vision or balance issues, but she finds that she feels much more confident using them, especially over rough terrain. Because of my bad knee, I've been think of getting a pair as well. To all of you - keep up the good work, congratulate yourself for your successes and don't get discouraged over setbacks as we start each day with a clean slate....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/10/2023
Comments (18)I felt lousy for over a week, just today feeling pretty much like myself (so far). Tested negative 3x for covid and never had a fever. Just headache, intermittent sort throat, fatigue. This has happened to me for years. I will randomly feel run down, that ”I’m getting sick” feeling without ever getting truly sick with anything diagnosable, usually just for a couple of days. I mentioned it to my PCP a few years ago and some tests were done. All fine. I do tend to run slightly low on B and iron, and when I had long covid a couple of years ago I was borderline low so the dr recommended supplements. I have dropped them since, but I think I'll start again. The iron I have taken is this liquid that tastes like garbage but doesn't bother my stomach. I was getting a little worried about my upcoming trip so figured it couldn’t hurt to add this back into my routine until I leave. Funky, apples are so great right now! I have been having one every day, often with almond butter or as a ”side dish” with my scrambled eggs. I find that they feel more like a treat (and take longer to eat) when I cut them up. Oh, and sometimes sprinkle with cinnamon. My bday is next week and I am already planning a ”good eating week” interrupted briefly by dessert that night when we go out to dinner....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/29/2023
Comments (12)I’ve been maintaining a good activity level and continuing with my eating plan. I eat little but have plenty of energy, and eat more if I see the need. At this point I am not trying to lose, just maintain and adjust as I add or subtract activities. Today I’m making a cider based pulled pork in the crockpot for sandwiches as SIL and the grands are coming for the weekend to give DD a few days to herself. I will probably take Andrew to see the Paw Patrol movie and I am looking forward to the kids’ pack of a small amt of popcorn, junior drink and fun size Welch’s fruit snacks! Having the kids here automatically means I am weight lifting (switching back and forth between 27 lbs to 18 lbs, lol) I’ll also make cole slaw and a shredded brussel sprouts salad, and give the DH and SIL tortilla chips and salsa as well. I also bought Bluebell peppermint bark ice cream for dessert and will whip up a chocolate ganache for that. Luckily ice cream is not my weakness. My meal plan for myself is for adequate protein, more complex carbs / veg/ fiber and minimal sugar / pasta/ potatoes etc. If I make all those it usually serves everyone well as they eat more of what they like and there’s something appealing for everyone. Autumn has put a new spring in my step and I am anxious to get out and dive into everything. Sunday I have a historical society meeting after church and a concert at 5 (attending, not singing), and next week a landscape painting class and a dinner meeting for the regional Democratic party along with rehearsals two nights for two different choirs. My primary goal is to be as healthy as possible to care for my mother and DH, help out with the grandchildren and stay involved in all the things that interest me. Lately it all seems to have become easier to manage, no idea why 🤔...See MoreFunkyart
