Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/29
Comments (15)Oh no @Funkyart and @Sueb20 I am so sorry you are both sick! I hope you both feel much better very soon. My husband is away at work, coming home tomorrow, and just told me that he has a cold now. I really hope I don't get it. I think there are still a lot of viruses circulating right now. I have an upcoming in person company event with the entire company. So I decided I'd better get my sh*** together and get the latest (4th) C booster. That night it snowed, but not a lot, so I opted to shovel instead of using the snowblower. Well, I must have seriously pulled something in my neck/shoulder/upper back area. I've been in a ton of pain for the last few days, though slightly better each day. And I was terribly fatigued for a few days, but that seems to have passed at least. I haven't dared try to lift weights since. Today I thought I was feeling capable of swimming and was hoping that the motion would loosen things up. Well, someone had the lap swimming pool set really cold and it was really painful the entire time. I toughed it out for 50 minutes but couldn't even make my usual 60, and I was completely unable to really push myself. I hope this gets better soon. It may be time to see if the massage therapist I used to see is still working. I really don't want to fall off the exercise wagon. Eating wise I'm still doing 5:2 IF. I'm still not seeing any progress with my extra 3 holiday pounds but I suppose it's still a win that I haven't added any more to that weight gain. On a positive note, I was checking my professional wardrobe and concluded that all of my newer button up shirts are way too big, but some of my older ones that I'd been too big to wear fit great now. I also ordered this James Perse shirt (on sale!) and there is no way I would have fit into this a year ago. (This picture is on a model, not me.) It feels good to get some new clothes and feel confident about wearing them around my coworkers. @gsciencechick your grill is so cute! I love the color. I've always loved the look of the Weber grills but I am terrible about lighting charcoal. Also HUGE congratulations on being down 10 pounds since October! That's impressive!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 06/18/2023
Comments (27)Thank you all for the well wishes. She is doing ok for what she has going on. It's eye opening and yet another reminder to age as well as we can. Hospitals and rehabs are not great places to spend a lot of time. She was dr avoidant and anti meds for most of her life, but that just left her with some health issues she just didn't treat - like a way underactive thyroid and high BP. I think those probably played into her current situation. Luckily, the care this time around has been spread between the hospital and my siblings, so we've got a good schedule going. I have been able to exercise and sleep. Part of my new sleep routine is reading a real book before bed, instead of looking at my phone. Right now I am reading this. It's really interesting in that it has actual assessments and plans for improvements. I honestly think I am in decent shape, but the assessments said otherwise:) I feel like I'm agile, but not in these ways I guess. So, lots of mobility issues to work on. I also really like my new 800 gram challenge. I do better with number goals it seems, so instead of just saying eat more fruits and veggies, this is a concrete goal in addition to the 30 different plan products. I relied a lot on nuts and seeds for that, so this is indeed a challenge for me. I have been eating a lot more fruit, which I didn't really eat because of spikes on my CGM. I will have to see how that works when I wear one again, but for now I'm going with it. I do think the fruit reduces other cravings and not great for me foods. I just make sure to eat it with other fiber and fat to hopefully slow down the effect. @gsciencechick -good work on your A1C - sounds like you are headed in a great direction. @jill302 - maintaining is often harder than losing. Good work!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/10/2023
Comments (5)I am so sorry you have not been feeling well, Funky. We have had a bug going around, here. DS had it, and then DH lost his voice for a day, with a little cough, but seems to have dodged the full cold, and I (knock on wood) might have dodged it all. I am still full on at Pilates. I LOVE that I can go to the App and pick up a class if there is an opening. I did that yesterday, with a class called Control. It started out like ballet, with plie' and relave', and continued with slow planks and some torturous sideline work on the reformer. Coordination is not my superpower, and I find it difficult to keep the ring between my ankles AND do something else with my hands, LOL. The storm that blew through TN on Saturday was too close, and I had a few drinks (vodka and that fizzy sugar- free drink from Aldi) while my DS and DH streamed one of the YT storm chaser channels. It is bad enough on the ipad!! My town's Bike/Walk group is starting up a walk group around downtown this week, and I may join in on that. They said dogs are welcome, but this doggie C0v1d needs to pass before I am willing to take the dogs out. Strange that C0v1d never bothered me, but I am scared my dogs will get sick!! Here's to a great week!!! (Clink)...See MoreFunkyart
