Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/22/2023
Comments (7)@gsciencechick - the program I joined this month refers to "informed" intuitive eating - knowing why you are craving sweets, or not being able to go more than 2 hours between meals without getting hangry so you can fix it. I don't know the exact definition of intuitive eating, but in the end I understood their idea to mean - listen closely to your body, but try to get it to eventually tell you the right thing :) I love the NSVs - looking and feeling good. I travel far to get my hair cut, so usually I only make it a couple times a year - very strange, but that's how it's been working out. Last week I got the BEST haircut, so that's a win for sure. It is great to feel good in your body and your clothes. My travels went ok. Not quite as much exercise as usual, but lots of steps. I wore my jeans for the second time this season and they are not any looser. Thought maybe I was losing some in my waist, I feel less bloated with all of this additional fiber, but no go there. I came back several pounds up as usual, but am down a couple this morning. Trying to get back on track. My schedule is pretty free through the end of the year, so I hope to make some weight lifting progress. Still considering joining a gym as the weather gets cooler. This is the same podcast host we linked last week - but he had another great guest. This one talking about the benefits of walking - not just on physical health, but mental health, problem solving, focus, job performance etc. I found it interesting and motivating. Sometimes it's easy to get caught in the weeds of weight loss, but often it comes down to the basics. The guest was Irish as well - so fun listening! Walking Podcast I live in a very walkable area - to walk my dog or get a stroll in, but I can't walk to the store or to run errands, or to dinner. I would love to live somewhere like that. I think it's such a great lifestyle....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/12/2023
Comments (5)Gscience - sorry you fell! Ugh, but it does sound like you are recuperating well! Hope it's a quick recovery from here on. Springroz - amazing Pilates consistency! That must feel fantastic! Funky- I hope you enjoyed your walk. We have been having lovely weather here as well, so I have been forcing myself to go along on the morning dog walks. Always glad I went, it's a good way to start the day. I had a good week mostly. Lots of walks, three good pickleball days, and three full body weight trainings. I have a great setup in my basement now that will allow me to progress through the winter and a goal to be strong to ski in February, so that should keep me motivated and moving forward. I'm still thinking about my bloodwork, nothing was alarming, but I was hopeful for some different numbers. But looking back honestly over the past few months I can see I wasn't really changing much up. So, I do have a couple tweaks I'm going to work on and see where I get. Mostly more fruits and vegetables, more water, more weight lifting, and some targeted supplements. I'm terrible at taking vitamins of any sort, but there is a theme in my bloodwork which might be helped with a couple additions. But, in the big picture, I am grateful for my good health so far in life, grateful for the mental health and mood boost eating well and exercising gives me, and grateful for my body which is getting stronger and allowing me to enjoy the activities I love. Can't let myself get down in the weeds too far :)...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 11/26/2023
Comments (7)I thought I was doing ok-- steady and mostly healthy diet-- but I have to acknowledge that the pounds I have been "up" the last few times are not normal fluctuations but increased weight. This is the first since I've started losing weight that I have a net increase in weight (vs the normal fluctuations). I am not happy about it but I do know where they've come from ... while maintaining a pretty decent diet otherwise, I have allowed some chips and other savory snacks in. I have also not been making soup as religiously. Soup is really THE easiest way for me to stay on track. This next month will be about keeping a lean diet most days and increasing my walking/exercise so that I can have small indulgences at holiday gatherings and on my trip. I could whine and pout and complain -- but I did this to myself. I know where I was too loose. I need to be more serious. I need to get excited to lose the next 10! Part of my strategy to get excited and focused is getting my hair done -- I know that doesn't make any sense lol but when I am looking good, I tend to work harder on all aspects of my appearance and health. Oh yeah -- and I am going back to weighing daily. Apparently being obsessed with the scale helps keep me accountable! How are you all doing?...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/3/2023
Comments (15)I have been busy unraveling some medical mysteries…so annoying and somewhat stressful. Today I finally saw an ENT for a sore throat I have had for 3+ months. Something about a sore throat, for me, says ”you’re sick” or ”you’re getting sick” so it has really kind of messed with my head and my energy level. Anyway, I was diagnosed with larygopharangeal (sp?) reflux, or ”silent reflux” and start taking meds tonight. I will be so happy if it works! I have no heartburn or any other stomach symptoms, just the sore throat. Meanwhile (I feel so old) I have had a foot issue that the podiatrist thought was bursitis, tried 2 cortisone shots with no result, now doing PT and he thinks it’s actually a trapped nerve. It is just another minor annoyance and doesn’t affect my activity except that it’s hard to get motivated to exercise when you wake up every morning with a sore foot. We will be away again this weekend visiting DS but DH and I have both agreed that next week we need to re-start our healthy eating routine and maybe even start ”dry January” a couple weeks early (making exceptions for a few holiday gatherings). We keep trying to establish a routine of walking 1/2 hr after dinner every night but it is reallly hard to start that up when it’s cold and dark! We should have started in the summer so it would truly be a routine by now....See MoreRelated Professionals
