Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/5
Comments (18)" I’m coming up on my year anniversary with my CGM and my nutrionist. I thought that would be an end for me. I pictured some before and after one year success post. But I realized I’m still on a path and learning, still a work in progress, so I’m going to continue with both. It’s working for me. The knowledge and accountability are really good for me, and like the quote goes- “I’m worth it”😀 My health is worth it. " @legomom23 this really resonated with me this morning. I didn't think I'd be "done" by now but I definitely had visions of being closer to my target weight, stronger and just more generally healthy. My BIL's heart attack really brought home the message that there is no "done". It's a lifetime commitment. BIL was never overweight and is always active. If he can have a heart attack, any of us could. I do recognize that there are a lot of factors at play-- including genetics-- but I am going to do all I can to better control my eating and my weight. I am not happy with where I am today-- sure, I made some good progress and I am not going to sniff at that... but I am not going to let myself coast anymore. If I am honest with myself, I have been coasting for at least 4 months. I have been ok with "mostly healthy" which has allowed me to justify some major deviations. I need to accept that "mostly healthy" isn't good enough if I want to get to a healthy weight ... and that means many more vegetables. I have been more "hungry" this winter... but have I really?? I think I have been bored, prone to indulgence and have had a need for comfort. Those aren't hunger issues. They're issues to manage in my life.. not my diet. Legomom, I think we have both responded well to the volumetrics approach to eating. Fill up on the good stuff. I enjoy eating like that ... and I don't have any real excuse for why I stopped. The other thing I have noticed is that when my healthy behaviors took a dive.. so did the quality of my sleep. Diet pepsi didn't help either LOL. Now that I am moving back to a healthier routine (and not drinking DP), I am sleeping better! It makes such a difference in my day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/26
Comments (31)I listened to a portion of the podcast above and read through the document Sue shared (as well as another similar one I found). I think there are some interesting points and certainly some guidelines I can roll into my weekly diet -- but I don't think I can completely follow the "reset". Sure, there are things that will be hard because I have leaned into the carbs in recent past but there are a handful of deal breakers for me -- like coffee. Bullet-proof coffee does not sound appealing to me and my early morning coffee is seriously one of my joys in the day. I often go to sleep looking forward to waking in the early hours and having my coffee. It's part of a ritual of self care .. 1-2 hrs of quiet time before emails and calls start coming in. Still, there are lessons to be had .. I know I need to make some changes in order to start losing weight again .. so I will be digging in deeper to the program and recipes. I think my biggest fault right now is that I have been spending very little thought and time on preparing food. It is partially that I've been lazy and partially that I've been bored. And maybe a bit defiant also. Sometimes, I just eat what I want-- or think I want. I need to be more intentional... and accountable. @Sueb20 have you started the 21-day re-set yet? If so, how is it going? @legomom23 I appreciate the information/links you bring to our group! So helpful! Like you, I have been giving into items on the "slow down" list ... and I think they are the reason I have been feeling slow and bloated. I will be starting there! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! sorry to hear you are still dealing with house issues. Stress usually causes me to eat much less but lately, it has gone the other direction. Protein and veggies sounds like a good strategy -- I know I can deal with life better when I am feeling better/stronger. Hope things start going more smoothly with the repairs/issues. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is so helpful to hear what others are doing to improve their health! My eye infection is getting better but it is still annoying and gross... and it is adding to the issues I already had with my vision. Hoping it will clear in another handful of days. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Have a great rest of your week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/7
Comments (34)So i realized today that I am about 1/2 way to wear I think I will be comfortable weight wise. It's been 2 yr that I have been focused on losing and I am down 68 lb. Still a long way to go but pretty much where I was weight wise in my late 30s.. and by 40, I was down to a comfortable weight (which I maintained until my late 40s). The target I am envisioning is still larger than most women would be happy with -- but I know I don't like how I look when "skinny". My bone structure is too big. I appreciate all the support from you all .. and it helps a lot.. but I am not happy with my appearance and I don't feel strong or fit. i recently passed an important personal milestone (the weight I was when I met SO) but I expected to feel better about my progress at this point. I was more fit then... but I was also in love lol so there's that too. I will keep pressing forward as I am seeking better health AND I want to look better. They will both come. I just need to stop focusing on my appearance. It is absolutely better than it was 68lb ago and I think it will change even faster over the next 68lb. It's funny, Niece#2 is struggling with the same. She's lost 28 lb since December but is currently stalled. I give HER all teh advice I should be giving myself. So now after I talk to her, I give myself the same pep talk I've just given her. And to you all.. we really need to celebrate our successes both healthwise and weight wise and stop undermining our progress with the "not good enoughs"....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/28/2023
Comments (25)As some may have seen on another thread, I traveled to Atlanta this last week so my exercise routine was pretty wrecked for half the week. Over last holiday weekend I spent so many hours doing yard work on top of my usual exercise, so hopefully that made up for it. And one of my days in Atlanta involved a ton of walking through a museum and the aquarium, so that was hopefully beneficial. I am also happy to report that I did not get any gluten sickness on my trip which felt like a big win. But most importantly, the summer only swimming pool is now open for 50m outdoor swimming in the mornings! I'm really hoping they haven't sold out most of the pool to a swim team again like last year. The 50m is more of a workout since you're pushing off from the wall less frequently and I can definitely feel it after each session. I need to get back into my summer routine of cardio in the morning and weights at lunch time since I've been slacking off a bit on the weight lifting. On the weight loss front I think I'm still hovering about where I was in the winter. Maybe down a pound. So maintaining, but I'd like to lose a few more again in the summer to be back where I was at the end of last summer. On a side note, I'm terribly photo phobic and hate having people take photographs of me without my control. Apparently our company photographer snapped a picture of me during our in person company event and the CEO decided that was the photo he would send out to our entire company in his weekly email. Ugh. I am grateful that my immediate reaction wasn't "Oh no, I look fat!" but I still wasn't very happy with how I looked. I wish I could get comfortable with how I look in pictures....See MoreFunkyart
