Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 1/1/2023
Comments (57)So glad to hear you are feeling better, Yeonassky! Isn't it amazing how exercise becomes such a part of your daily routine that even when sick you want to get out there! I am not there currently lol.. but I have been in the past and will be again. Best wishes in the new year and with your increments with running and pushups! Prickly what a great feeling to look back at the last year and to see your accomplishments right there in the mirror! What really stands out to me is that you say you feel "strong and fit" ... and that you have significantly reduced your digestive issues. Those are the kinds of changes that impact your quality of life! I am impressed and so happy for you! Well done! And prickly's post reminded me that we all have been here posting and sharing experiences since what? May? It has been so very helpful to have this forum to share experiences, articles, recipes and successes! You all have kept me focused when I want to throw up my hands ... and inspired when I think I just can't eat another cucumber LOL. Thank you all for coming back here week after week! ❤️❤️❤️ So I can't really explain my update this week-- but I am down 4lb since 12/31 --- 3 lb lower than my lowest weight in 2022. I definitely cut back on the indulgences, but I really didn't expect to see any losses-- in fact, I am pretty sure my calories were higher than usual! I can't explain it but I am just really glad to see a loss after 4 months of very slow progress....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 06/18/2023
Comments (27)Thank you all for the well wishes. She is doing ok for what she has going on. It's eye opening and yet another reminder to age as well as we can. Hospitals and rehabs are not great places to spend a lot of time. She was dr avoidant and anti meds for most of her life, but that just left her with some health issues she just didn't treat - like a way underactive thyroid and high BP. I think those probably played into her current situation. Luckily, the care this time around has been spread between the hospital and my siblings, so we've got a good schedule going. I have been able to exercise and sleep. Part of my new sleep routine is reading a real book before bed, instead of looking at my phone. Right now I am reading this. It's really interesting in that it has actual assessments and plans for improvements. I honestly think I am in decent shape, but the assessments said otherwise:) I feel like I'm agile, but not in these ways I guess. So, lots of mobility issues to work on. I also really like my new 800 gram challenge. I do better with number goals it seems, so instead of just saying eat more fruits and veggies, this is a concrete goal in addition to the 30 different plan products. I relied a lot on nuts and seeds for that, so this is indeed a challenge for me. I have been eating a lot more fruit, which I didn't really eat because of spikes on my CGM. I will have to see how that works when I wear one again, but for now I'm going with it. I do think the fruit reduces other cravings and not great for me foods. I just make sure to eat it with other fiber and fat to hopefully slow down the effect. @gsciencechick -good work on your A1C - sounds like you are headed in a great direction. @jill302 - maintaining is often harder than losing. Good work!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/9/2023
Comments (24)@legomom23 I'm so sorry you've caught covid and have been sick. I hope that it remains mild and that you feel back to normal soon. It sounds like you're being smart and listening to what your body is ready for in terms of activity. @Funkyart I'm glad you've made it through your surgery and dental work. That is a lot. I completely understand that sometimes we only have capacity for managing one or a few challenging health things at a time. It sounds like you're making great progress and ready to work on the next item on the list (thyroid). I will say that as someone also on thyroid medication, it is life-changing for me and I feel immensely better and more able to do physical activity when my levels are correct. I also completely understand and sympathize with the frustration of maintaining / plateauing when you want to progress. From what you've described, it sounds like you've already had amazing progress and really are doing well from an improved health perspective. I am certain that you will continue moving forward in time, it just may be slower because you are so much closer to your goal. @gsciencechick I love that! Sorry I haven't been great about keeping up to date here. While I am mostly over that horrific cold I had, I am still struggling with some residual coughing (not bad, but sometimes at night or after/during exertion of exercise), runny nose, and low energy. This week and last week I have been back fully on track with my morning (summertime) cardio exercise of swimming and running. I am also back on track in terms of doing my 5:2 IF. I had to pause while I was sick because when I tried to do it while sick, it made me way more sick. (Lesson learned.) I am now battling the 2 extra pounds from being sick on top of the few extra pounds I was already fighting. I think I'm down 1lb after 1-2 weeks of getting mostly back on track. I am trying to refocus on IF and even more so on reducing snacking and focusing on healthy meals. I am not, however, back on track in terms of weight lifting. I am unbelievably busy at work. I've recently been talking with an HR consultant and she was shocked that I am doing significant individual contributor software engineering work on top of having 8 direct reports to manage. I love what I do, but some weeks it's just a LOT. Now I'm being added to more senior leadership meetings in addition to my already busy schedule and suddenly I don't even have 20-30min at lunch time to lift weights every day. I've gotten to it once this week, but I need to get back on track....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/17/2023
Comments (13)Yesterday was my first day out of the house and I made a beeline for our community farmers’ market. Delicious veggies and fresh eggs were in abundance, and I bought a lot from my favorite vendor. In the bag: red new potatoes and the most delicious green and purple okra! Also some very small cute red and yellow biquinho sweet peppers (not visible) that I am planning to use in salads. A beautiful eggplant, freshly hulled limas and black eyed peas, garlic garlic, and two varieties of tomato. I harvested my back porch basil and made this for yesterday’s lunch homemade basil walnut pesto on toast, topped with slices of heirloom tomato, heavenly! I’ve already cooked the peas in chicken broth and have made a beans and rice dish to be eaten throughout the week, and have roasted eggplant slices, the potatoes, and four older tomatoes we already had (with olive oil and balsamic vinegar). The latter I scraped off the pan, mashed thoroughly and now have a delicious savory tomato jam I used on my and DH’s morning eggs today. I am going to make dilled potato salad with the roasted potatoes as I find using them gives the dish so much more flavor than using boiled ones. Between our vacation (DH and I both lost weight) and recent illness I am now at the same weight I was at age 35. Interestingly, I don’t look different but my weight seems to have been completely rearranged or redistributed, if that makes any sense, and my clothes are fitting differently. I bought a belt a few weeks ago in my regular size and I’m buckling it in the smallest hole. 😳 No idea if my body will “settle” at this weight (and no panic if it doesn’t) but I am enjoying having a real waistline again. (Still no hips, but the illusion of them now with a waist!)...See Morenicole___
