Comments (19)Beth, I forgot about freeze dance! You're right-- kids love it! I used to use Tae Bo . . .back when I had a VCR, I think (haha!). That is a good one, because it doesn't talk about being "sexy," I think . . .that's my big hesitation of doing workouts (other than things like yoga) w/the kids, because I don't like them hearing the message of weight loss, being sexy. fat = bad, etc. Outside, I was all set to buy them for home use-- went shopping with a friend who has always exercised in so many ways (gym, home, kayaking, caving, etc.) and she talked me out of them. She said I should just stick to weights. But, of course, traveling is a good reason, so I will get them. I have seen the GoFit brand-- good to know it lasts!! Bonnie, yay!!! That is awesome that you got yourself back on track. That is what counts. It's weird how we "think" not exercising, not eating how we wants. etc. is going to be better (because it seems like more fun!) but then we really do feel worse. RE: the step-- how is that on knees? More motivation . . . Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone!...See MoreWeekend quilting plans? 6/18-6/19
Comments (10)Sandra 'd love to send you some rain:) We have't had TOO much, but could certainly share! I had hoped to sew all day today & get caught up w/blocks for another swap I'm doing, plus get block #3 for the June lotto done. Alas!, DGS#2 spent the night last night (which is why I'm online now! at 4:30am lol) He will be here all day today while DGS#1 is in a soccer tournament out of town. He will entertain himself part of the time, so I'll be able to quilt a little, just not the marathon I had hoped for! :) Oh well, time w/them at this age is short, I'll enjoy it while I have it!! (I have learned a few things over the years, TH!!) ~Cindy Ahh!! The first birds are up singing!!...See MoreRECIPE: Progressive Dinner For April 19
Comments (22)Yummm! All the recipes sound good this week! For what it's worth..my vote for another course would be for the breadstuffs. Seeing as how this menu is leaning towards the cooler climate, I will post one of our favorite salads. Fall Salad with Peppered Pears and Goat Cheese with a Spring Vanilla Vinaigrette - serves 4 4 pears, halved lengthwise, cored and sliced (ripe but firm) 2 tbsp unsalted butter 2 tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp cracked black pepper 6-8 oz mixed salad greens 4 oz peppered chevre sea salt Spring Vanilla Vinaigrette (also good on strawberry, spinach salad) 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil 2-3 tbsp white balsamic vinegar (start with two, add extra if needed to taste). 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1 tsp dried tarragon leaves 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper 1/2 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt Note: I also added 2 tsp dijon tarragon seadoning mix, but if you don't have it, omit or try 1 tsp dijon mustard. Mix well and chill before serving over salad. Salad: Melt butter in a skillet large enough to hold the pears in a single layer. Add the pears and brown sugar. Allow the brown sugar to melt, cover each side of the pear. When pears are tender and a deep caramel colour: add the pepper, stir to coat, season with sea salt. Lift pears and caramel from skillet and keep warm.(I have made this ahead of time and just reheated til warmed through in the microwave. If mixture gets to thick reheat with a bit of water ). Put greens on individual plates, garnish with the pears. Drizzle the dressing over the top and top with pieces of the crumbled peppered goat cheese. Serve immediately. Comments (27)I was really worried I'd be disappointed hitting the scale since I had three meals out over the last few days with friends in town visiting and a work party for my husband. Somehow, I'm not. I seem to be down 1lb which is fantastic. I'd have been satisfied with no weight gain. I've had to officially switch to my summer workout schedule which is now morning swimming or running and I've managed to get in two lap swims and one run. And I felt great on my run this morning. I need to keep this moment in my head if I struggle to maintain this weight loss since it is incredible how much better I feel running when I'm not carrying all that extra weight. And I need to stick with weight lifting at lunch time, which is easy for me to forget when I'm busy with work. @l pinkmountain I really hate how much food advertising there is on streaming and on the internet. I do ok fasting (up to 36 hours) 2 days per week, but I have to find something other than TV to entertain myself because of the commercials. They just wreck me and make me so hungry. Maybe it's not just inactivity but food advertising that has made weight such a challenging thing for our society. @Funkyart congratulations on the pants fitting! That is seriously such a wonderful feeling when something you wanted to wear and couldn't before now fits your body. @jill302 I am so very sorry for your loss! My heart is breaking for you. I'm glad you gave your dog a wonderful home for 17 years but I know the pain of losing a beloved fur family member. And to add the stress of a MIL moving in at the same time. Wow. That is a lot to deal with all at once. @Sueb20 I'm sorry that you have long covid! That's just awful. I hope you start feeling back to yourself soon. I think walking, at any speed, is such a wonderful form of exercise. And that you're able to keep up with exercising when you feel so crummy is a testament to your willpower and strength. Keep it up. Hopefully the moderate exercise will help your immune system heal your body too....See MoreFunkyart
