Probably why I never have cared for pasta.
Comments (11)LOLOL. Boy, what a thread! I have an iron gut, and I can't think of too many experiences where it turned me off on food, but my husband the butcher (who'd have thunk?) is just the opposite. If anything offends him in the food catagory, then you may as well throw it off the menu forever. I have, for years, put dry staples like flour products in the freezer first to kill pantry moth larvae and then in an airtight container. Those little pests often just come in products you buy, even when they are sealed. Living rural, I have become very diligent in "demousing" my house because the field mouse invasion comes twice a year with great regularity. Bleach is your friend, lol. So are housecats! The weirdest wildlife in my kitchen? Beat this, I dare you. A baby chimney swift in my linen drawer. They must've fallen from their nest in the kitchen fireplace, worked their way through some bad brickwork and into the cabinet in the inglenook. About a hundred tiny frog or toads one time by the back door. I can only think they hatched in water somewhere near the foundation of the house and made their entrance into my kitchen through the walls. There were so many of them, I had to carefully brush them up into dustpans to release them. Snakes. Ring neck, and rat snakes. One baby I found was only inches long and I mistook him for an earthworm. I place it tenderly outside in my fern garden. The occasional bat and God knows how they get in. Several shrews. Brown thrashers. And the most bizarre, a duck in the living room hearth. LOL....See MoreI never thought I'd say this
Comments (5)I have a small orchard, and in addition to the five apple trees I planted, a bird must've pooed the seed to start one wild, and I inherited four old ones already on the property. They're all standard sized trees, and I grow mostly heirloom varieites organically, so that means they tend to bear heavily every other year. This year practically nada, but last year.....oh my. I made apple sauce, apple butter, apple jelly, apple pie filling for the pantry. I stuck apple pies, apple crisps in the freezer. I incorporated apples into the diet at least twice a day. I gave apples away. Apple drops are a yellow-jacket and wasp magnet, and there were so many drops, my husband had to take the front end loader and push them to the back of the property in piles. The deer eat well those years. It's the old 'cup runneth over' I had to go to my son's farm to pick this year, because our harvest was so lean. sigh. This has also been a banner year for black walnuts. Like your red raspberries, we harvested and my husband husked, cracked and pickout out a few hundred dollars worth, most of which are in the freezer now. We just said 'enough is enough' and left the rest to the wild-life....See MoreI never thought I would hate raccoons..............
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Lisa: I am tempted to stay up all night to see. Only thing I can figure is they wait at the edge of the pond and when a fish comes up on the shelf "Bam, they have it." I still haven't been able to catch the injured fish. Even though it doesn't have a tail it's fast. My water is so clear you can see it was gnawed off entirely. The poor fish just wiggles through the water. I am worried about infection. They struck again last night and tore my floating islands to shreds. Just like Mike posted they must think the noodles are edible. There is blue styrofoam from one end of the yard the the other. The one you made me they didn't bother though. I took a pic of it and forgot to post it for you to see. Catherinet: I never had a problem when my dog was alive. He died two years ago and ever since then it's been "coon city". I just made the remark to my son that I'm going to adopt a greyhound. I won't have another dog though. I work full time and it isn't fair to the animal. Maybe when I retire. Or I can put a sign in my front yard "Curb your dogs on my grass" or "dog poo wanted". lol I think they sell water scarecrows at my garden store. Jenny...See MoreNever thought I'd say this, but... Comments (18)It looks great! In fact, picture perfect....keep going. And send your DD over here! I wish I had an artsy craftsy daughter! I have two sportsy girls (not a scrapbooking/painting/decorating bone in their bodies). It used to make me madly crazy when it was book report time--they would throw some pics on a cardboard piece and proclaim they were done. I would have spent 10 hours on something like that as a kid LOL. It probably drove MY mom crazy (she was doctor and couldn't care less about art!) The Quiet Moments color looks really nice--just a teaser I know, but can't wait to see the finished product...then are you done?...See MoreElizabeth
