If you can figure it out, I would give up that jacuzzi to have two bathrooms on the upstairs floor. You could probably get two bathrooms of about 6' x 7'. The bathrooms would be small, but could be functional if designed properly (and if within code).

The cost of such a renovation will be high.

In addition to high financial cost, you might have to adjust one of the two closets adjoining the existing bath to get enough space for two baths. Whether to reduce the walk-in closet, or to move the reach-in closet in the lower left bedroom is a decision left to smarter people than me!

Thanks for your response, not looking to split the bathroom. The Jacuzzi has to go but will need a tub when we sell the home down the road. We need to add a shower and tub without getting rid of the window and toilet stays at its current location.

The first thing I'd do is get rid of having two doors going into the bathroom. If this is a shared bath, then everyone should enter from the hallway. That second door is just a waste of space. Convert the jacuzzi to a shower, only and raise the window to clerestory height for privacy.

If you just want to update the bathroom but not make two then do it. It’s a decently sized space and you can make a really nice bathroom here. Since there are so many sharing the space might it make sense to have a pocket door somewhere so someone can be showering while another gets ready at the sink area? If you aren’t willing to change the window then you are confining yourself a bit on lay out.

Install a nice long reachin closet on the right wall in the bedroom then you would have space for 2 bathrooms one a master.

Your post is confusing because 1) I think your post from eariler this week was the same thing and 2) you say you want a master bath with 2 shower and 2 tubs. Is that what you really mean?

It sounds to me like you want a tub and shower combo in the master bath without expanding the footprint beyond the current walls and without moving the toilet and without covering the windows. Is this correct? Can you say more about what your budget is for this project? It will help you get answers that are more realistic for you - $7k, $10 K, $25K?

Also, are all of your bathrooms on the second floor?

Our budget for this project is limited to $35,000, and unfortunately, adding two separate bathrooms will exceed this budget. We are looking for creative and cost-effective solutions to meet our needs

I say, absolutely yes, get rid of that big tub and make a nice shower, and if you can fit in more storage space and 2 different sink areas, I would do that, too. We have 7 adults living in our house and the only thing we've used the bathtubs for (since the kids were littles) was bathing dogs (rarely). I'd give up that bathtub, unless you're going to be moving within the next few years.

I would move the window close to the sinks and put the shower tub combo where the jacuzzi is.

And what are those needs? Your posts are very confusing. You say you want two showers and two tubs, which would mean two bathrooms. Then you say you don't want two bathrooms. You say you want a master bathroom, but then say that you don't want it. Please be specific and state what you are looking to accomplish, and also tell us what you already have in the house.

As mentioned, adding two separate bathrooms would exceed our budget and we need to have a shower and tub in the house for future resale purposes. We've received several great ideas, such as removing one of the doors and having everyone enter through the hallway door, moving the window closer to the sink or converting the jacuzzi area into a shower and raising the window for privacy. Our budget is $35,000, so we are looking for the best option that fits within our budget. We love all the ideas that have been shared and are grateful for the input from Patricia Colwell Consulting, Sabrina Alfin Interiors and all that have commented.

If I understand your rather confusing post, you currently have a downstairs bathroom with a shower but the upstairs bathroom (based on the drawing) ONLY has a bathtub - not even a tub shower combination.

You want to remodel the upstairs bathroom so that it has a shower so that there will be two showers for the family to use - one upstairs and one downstairs.

Your use of "master" bathroom is confusing since that phrase indicates a bathroom that is only used by the "master bedroom" and is generally not accessible except through the bedroom.

You certainly can remodel the upstairs bathroom and install either a tub/shower combination in place of the current tub only OR just a lovely large shower in which event there would be no tub at all in the home.

If you literally want to have TWO showers in ONE room, I would say that is not a wise decision because the market for people who would want two separate showers in the same bathroom is limited and very weird unless you are in a dormitory.

I agree with Helen now that she’s understood your post! Simply make the tub a tub/shower. I think you need to change the window too. It’s really not in a good spot for a shower

Thanks Helen, this are ideas we have dilemmas on, 2 showers and tub meaning splitting the bathroom into 2, kid’s bathroom would have a shower tub and master bathroom would have just a shower no tub, get rid of the jacuzzi add a shower and a tub or leave as is.

Square off your walk in closet in the MB.Make that into a small bath with sink, toilet and shower. Add a reach in closet just to the right of the entrance to the MB, against the interior wall. Then, in the squared off main bath, place the tub/shower combo along the interior wall. Move the toilet to the left, parallel to the window. You will lose the walk in closet, but gain a Master shower. And get a dedicated bath for the family.

Wait now you are saying you do want two bathrooms?

It will be a great investment to break up the single bath and walk-in closet for two bathrooms instead.

I think the idea of splitting the room in half is the answer, first space with vanity only and the second tub \ shower and toilet. Window will have to change, hopefully into two.

Change the jetted tub to a tub/shower combo. Think about using your master walk in closet as a master bathroom and your bedroom is big enough to put a reach in closet along the entrance wall. I feel gaining a bathroom will be good for resale and loosing a walk in closet will not be detrimental. No removing of windows but I did add one to the master bath. It may be worth doing it all at once and upping your budget to get it all done at the same time. Here is my crude drawing not to scale.

Here’s what I would do in your situation. (1) create a ‘water closet’ room for your toilet so that multiple persons can potentially use bathroom at same time, and include shallow shelving/cabinet for toilet paper, etc in the room; (2) remove tub; (3) install shower in place of the tub with bench along the back wall, and use frameless glass above a knee wall between the shower and double vanity to let the light from the windows flow throughout the space.

If you did frosted glass on the shower area then someone could potentially shower in privacy while others are using the sink/vanity as well. Am guessing you would need to modify your window in shower to make it more waterproof and ensure privacy from neighbors.

Another option for shower that would be simpler/ less expensive/ more private— instead of frameless glass wall, just have a custom shower curtain rod with 90 degree turn made that spans from the window to the new water closet area (would be kind of the same idea as a hospital room curtain). Keep the shower curtain open when it’s not in use, but have full privacy and daylight pass-through while using it.

If you changed the downstairs shower to a tub/shower combo, it might make planning the upstairs much easier and wouldn't cost that much of your budget.
