Comments (13)Search for some of @KarinMT's posts - she is a geologist and has written quite a bit about quartzites vs. marbles and Super White in particular. Here is one of her published articles " What about Super White? Super White is one of the stones that is frequently caught in the quartzite vs. marble mystery. Most commonly, Super White is dolomitic marble. That means it won’t scratch glass and it will etch with acids. Some Super White has minor amounts of quartz mixed in with the marble. But the rock is still marble and will act like marble. When doing the glass test with Super White, be sure to test a few different areas to get a sense for the overall rock. Is it all the same? Or are there some parts that are harder or softer?" Be absolutely sure to test several areas of the slab(s) in question and understand you have a marble....See MoreKitchen Cabinets Colors Taj Mahal Counter and Waterfall Island
Comments (8)Based on the image you posted - and bearing in mind differences in lighting and monitors, etc... Your stone looks like it's in the same territory as SW 7036 Accessible Beige, so color card 249, and SW 7035 Aesthetic White, color card 259. There are definitely green undertones to your slab, and you could absolutely look for greens that work, something like SW 6171 Chatroom. Green can also give you an entree into some blues, but you have to choose a blue-grey with green undertones, and there are definitely limits to what ultimately will work, SW 6479 Drizzle, for example....See MoreIsland waterfall countertops
Comments (49)@Beth H. The current gray tile is actually pink stone tile that we couldn't identify but had it diamond ground *because it's so hard), steamed cleaned then painted and sealed. I like the uneven look and the cool feeling of the stone under my feet that you can't get from porcelain or ceramic. Initially, we were going to replace it but it sits on 2 inches of floated cement and nothing is really level in this house and chose not to go that route hence if we replace it would need to go on top of the current floor and/or repaint. The carpet is inset but if we were to replace the floor then we would fill it in....See MoreWaterfall island & countertop advice: how thick should the edges be?
Comments (13)Thanks. It is primarily the issues on the GC side. Cabinet design were done a year ago, with the anticipation of using 2cm quartz and the 4cm edge profile, with island being the mitered edge. Cabinet seller indicated to use plywood underlayment for the counter and island. Now the GC along the way asked me to purchase 3cm quartz for the durability of it, saying that we can change all the edge profile to 6cm. There is one cabinet at the corner that would need to open right above the counter, and with this additional height from the 3cm quartz and edge, it may not have enough space to for that cabinet door to open. So I am looking for options -- or maybe just simply switch out the 3cm quartz for 2cm ones. -- I already paid for some pretty expensive quartz, and don't know whether the stone distributor would let me switch (presumably 3cm is more expensive than 2cm, so they might be ok)....See More- 20 days agolast modified: 20 days ago
