My first mushroom, leftover thinset
Comments (11)Ok, Lesson #2 on this short-lived project... "Don't rush it. Thinset is a fragile beast, and 24 hours is NOT long enough when it's nearly a half inch thick in places!" I gave the bowl a single shake, over a couch cushion so it would have a soft landing. Ouch! Lesson #3...or call it a Tip if a Lesson has to be Learned The Hard Way, 'cause I got off easy on this one: "Thinset cleans up easy when it is still soft." I didn't use the wire brush, it just happens to be laying there, noticed it when I was previewing. I just crumbled the thinset off the marbles, then took the bowl outside and used the hose and rubbed the remaining bits off. Oh, Lesson #4, learned about a year ago: "Do not wash up thinset messes in your kitchen sink. You WILL have to replace the trap if you do so." Ask me how I know. Live and learn. Onward!...See MoreMy First Mushrooms - Inspired by Lyndalu
Comments (6)Thanks, y'all! Lyndalu, those little things are heavy!!! The big one I made from concrete and wow, I could hardly hold it with one hand. The little one I made from left over grout. I hope it stays together but it's been outside waiting for me to decorate for a few weeks and has not disintegrated so I figured, go ahead and glue glass on it. Slow, my yard will have mushrooms all over it, when I get to make more. Can't wait to see how you would decorate them. They will be quite dazzling. NT, what's holdin' you up on the column? Just take a deep breath and finish it - this weekend. We're waiting.......See MoreMy first homegrown Monarch and question re: OE
Comments (5)Well some of my sanitized eggs did hatch! So I'm hoping for better luck! I also sanitized a potted milkweed and put it out on a warm day and it has about 7 eggs on it. So now....its in the enclosure, but what if the butterfly had OE and its on the eggs! UGH this is stressful!!!...See MoreFirst my first Challah
Comments (26)I do not think I am growing tomatoes this year, but I will look for Sun Gold at the nursery. I used to buy Donna tomatoes years ago, and they were by far the sweetest and best I've had, but I have not seen them since I left Venice. I think you may be right that Challah is better for FT than Brioche - I really do not need all that extra butter, and the Challah is very good for soaking up the batter. The FT had the exact texture that I was going for. I've made FT with Challah that I bought at the store, and it was not nearly as good as this. I used honey in the Challah because I have honey from Texas from clover flowers that I really like. I think it is clover honey - it might be wildflower. I cut the bread exactly one hour after it was out of the oven. Since it had been photographed, there was no need to wait! I had always thought that the braid would be difficult to make, as I could not figure it out from looking at a loaf, but it turns out to be reasonably easy, after watching a couple of videos. Most of my cooking I have learned from TV or videos - I find that more inspiring that a written recipe, although photos can help me get over that....See Morematthias_lang
