Comments (3)Go to SW and get the card with all the whites on it-there are several dozen. Take it home and hold various tones up to your marble and granite in various lights (day and night) and if one choice is not obvious, pick the two or three you like best. Then go back to SW and get $5 sample jars of the ones you like best and paint a piece of poster board or scrap plywood with the chosen colors (so you get a large sample) and place the larger samples in your room. Again inspect and compare at various times of day and night. I think the right choice will become obvious. If you're still not sure, ask a friend you know has a good eye for decorating to help you. Better to be safe than sorry and spending $10-$15 on sample jars and really being sure is better than spending $30+ on a full container which is non-returnable and find it's not really the right shade. I think I'd look for something that blends well with the cream background in your granite which is beautiful....See MoreFavorite cream paint and a ? about mixing white/cream in a room
Comments (13)I've wondered too and I think most whites, or at least white's that aren't really stark have some "undercolor". I think you get, yellow, green, blue, pink or grey. I bought a house with white walls with a grey undertone and didn't realize till I repainted with a white with a yellow undertone years later. I liked it so much more, the grey undertone I thought was depressing. I think the yellow undertone gives you that old fashioned "linen" look. I also tend to really dislike a pink undertone and find blue makes me feel cold (ice cubes anyone?) which might be a benefit in a bedroom as I like to sleep in a room on the cool side. I prefer the yellow and green undertones myself but thats just personal preference. Might be a question for a paint store person....See MoreHelp! Comments (5)Thank you again for your advice on colors. I love the combination of colors you have chosen. But I feel that again, I have not been very clear. The "landing" I am referring to is on the 1st floor. Unfortunately, in that dark niche outside the two bedrooms, I cannot hang anything because a thermostat was placed on that wall, and the A/C man just confirmed that it cannot be moved without a lot of work and expense. That is very unfortunate!! There is a "landing" on the 2nd floor too, along with a long hallway that connects bedroom to bathroom and study. In my opinion, the color of the stairwell will have to also be the color of the walls on this 2nd floor hall. Walls of study are BM 1077; walls of bathroom are SW Krypton; walls of bedroom are BM 1075. Please let me know if the colors you are showing are BM 1077 and SW Dover White. Those are colors I would like to stick with in my color scheme in general. I just believe I need to go lighter than BM 1077 on the walls of this hallway and on the 1st floor landing....See MoreElizabeth H
