countertop-gap with mitered edge

Micki Schultz
last year

Is it acceptable to have a gap with the mitered edge of your countertop? It’s quartzite. One side was perfect and the other has a gap. The gap is small. I think the picture makes it look a worse than it is. But I was under the impression it should be seamless, no gap. It looks like the stone is touching on both ends so the installer couldn’t get it closer. Am I being too picky? The countertop wasn’t cheap.

There were other issues.

  1. Very large gap between backsplash and wall filled with caulk, like 1/4 inch. I know walls aren’t straight but this seems excessive.
  2. Seam on backsplash was bigger than I though it should be. Also chips visible.
  3. Where the countertop meets the wall there are chips visible and a 3/16 gap towards the front of the counter.
  4. Gap where backsplash meets counter in drop down vanity makeup area.

The company is offering to

  1. Add side splash (which is not the original design but I guess I can live with it)
  2. Replace back wall backsplash (which will address gap at drop down area, and hopefully seam and caulking.
