2.5" Countertop Mitered Edge Plywood Installation Question

Hello All,

I am currently having my kitchen being renovated. Today, the contractor came to install the plywood for countertops.

I want 2.5" Mitered Edge on Island and 1.5" Mitered Edge on Perimeters.

The contractor installed one layer of plyood on all the cabinets. I questioned about the different mitered edge on the island and the perimeters.

He told me: It is all up to me.

With one layer of plywood on island, I still have enought margin for 2.5 mitered edge to drape down without blocking the island cabinet drawer/door. This installation method will make all countertops (island & perimeter) the same height. But obviously, 2.5" will drape lower than 1.5".

Another method is adding extra 1" layer of plywood on the island, this will make the island countertop 1" taller than perimeter countertop. But all countertops will drape down to the same level.

I don't know which method to choose right now. Can I get some advice from here? Which method is more common?

Thank you so much in advance!
