Do you mean a counter top edge with some sort of profile, like an ogee or similar?

I'm actually facing this as well. I think he means an edge where the stone is doubled in thickness. So the 2cm stone actually has a 4cm edge, to make it look thicker. In 3cm stone, the entire stone IS the edge, so it just sits on the sink.

What do you do when the edge "rolls under"? I saw one picture where the edge was cut away to account for the exposed sink face, so that's what I was going to go with. Its not as elegant a solution, but alot of the stone on the west coast is 2cm. I'd love any better suggestions!

Basically the edge of the slab is cut back at 45 degrees, then the edge piece, also cut at 45 degrees, is attached. the seam is at the natural countertop edge. Any thoughts on how to have this sort of edge meet a farmhouse sink? Thanks!

a mitred edge in stone jargon is when two pieces of stone are cut at 45 degrees (more or less) and bonded together perpendicular to each other to form a right angle. This type of approach is used when the intended edge profile is to be greater than 4cm (1-1/2") and the countertop sides are straight runs. Sometimes also referred to as a "skirt edge or skirting" Some farmer sinks have a lip and so the granite can be notched for s snug overlapping fit although this puts a lot of weight and stress on the granite if not engineered for this correctly. Best is to tightly butt the countertops up to the sink edges and adjust the sink height from below by building a platform with adjustable threaded rods/nuts which supports the weight of the sink. I am assuming that the sink is of another material separate from the granite and not being fabricated from granite as well. If it is, well then, a different approach is needed altogether.

OCJeff...what kind of stone do you have? So that is a built up edge and not 5cm stone? I was at a granite yard today and the salesman told me that unless I was going to do a fancy edge he didn't recommend doing a built up edge, but yours looks great and is the edge that I want. He said the seam would be too noticeable. Do you see your seam?

So funny! I was trying to figure this out just last night and came up with the same solution as ocjeff.
I wanted an undermount on our SS farm sink, but it looks like it just doesnt work w the mitered edge. We are doing a quartz stone for the perimeter. And the sink will be flush w counter.

I have a bunch of pictures of different mounting styles for these sinks both undercount and flush mount. But if you do a mitered edge you really have no choice but to inset the sink behind the edge and then do undermount or mount it flush.

Stephct - no it's not 5cm think but just a mitered edge. Do a search on this forum you'll see some examples and explanation. As I mentioned not my sink or faucet, but I did go with a Ticor s4412 I think it was. My counters will be Caesarstone Nougat.

These are the sinks/pictures I had gathered on how to possibly finish a counter against an apron sink. I didn't mind the undermount too much, but my sink is 10" deep, so add to that the 2.25 in. edge and then you are dealing with a very far reach, and possibly a sore back if you are too tall. With a flush mount, you actually end up raising the sink 2.25" which is great (for me and DW!).

These are how I was planning to finish the counter by the sink, until I realized that the mitered counter edge really limited your options. I'm sure there are more options, but these are just some I gathered.

Any issues with this type of mounting when using butcherblock counter? we also are looking to have it an apron front flush with the counter.

stephct..I was also wondering the same thing re. the faucet. I have come across an inexpensive Kraus and Vigo that looks just like the one OCJeff posted. I was going to post to get any feedback on them.

I installed our counter-depth, stainless apron sink flush mounted. I find this to be much better than either undermount or overmount. Just redo the silicone seal between the sink and the counter once in about 4-5 years.

Ok, OC Jeff. I know it's been a while, but now I'm worried about Kohler 36" Whitehaven with mitered edge. Don't much like the way it seems to fit in these pictures. Is there any edge that works best with the Kohler Whitehaven undermount apron "farm" sink? I may have to change sink or edge. Any pictures? Thanks for help!

Here's a Whitehaven installed in a standard 3cm edge. Have your fabricator miter the sink cut out; it's not a big deal.

Thanks Joseph! I see now. If they miter around the sink cut out, and drop the sink lower, it should look like it does in your picture...which looks really good. Should I ask them to keep the mitered drop to 1 inch on my 2cm quartzite, so it wont look a little too high? Does this look like 1.5" in the picture? Thanks so much for your time and help.

The sink edge is dropped the same depth as the front edge.
