Plumbing Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Best way to plumb this vanity

Please see attached photos of plumbing and vanity cabinet. The cabinet currently does not have the countertop installed. We know we'll need to drill 2 holes in open shelf for water lines to come through. We'll use a chrome P-Trap or Bottle Trap since it will show below the drawers. Please give ideas of the best way to plumb this vanity - especially how to feed hot/cold pipes through shelf. Cut copper pipes off below the shelf and connect flexible pipe to the copper, then feed through holes in the shelf and add the shut-offs up high so that they're inside the cabinet? Thank you!

Open up the drywall and see if you could raise the trap arm enough that the trap wasn't exposed or was minimized.

Really ? Ask your plumber and next time think before you buy a vanity with these issues. IMO it is meant to have a visible trap so do one and move on I have an open vanity in my one bathroom it has a chrome trap and honestly the only time you actually notice it is when you sit on the toilet .You have space behind the drawers for the water lines .

ALAS! I took the piece of furniture to 2 marble stores today, and both said the piece isn't deep enough to accomodate a sink and faucet (it's only like 19 inches deep). I could do a vessel sink, but I don't really want to... The piece is just a couple of inches too shallow. Someone suggested extending the back by adding wood on the sides, but by the time I do that - well, it's just gotten too complicated and expensive. So thank you everyone for your suggestions. You can narrow the bottom drawers by cutting the box in half and leaving the front the same size. This would give you a vertical space in the middle and four drawers to use, although the bottom ones are not as wide as before.

I'm not arguing for round toilets, elongated toilets, or any other specific kind of shape. I'm just arguing that you can get a reliable set of Toto toilets for your money: 4 X $252 = $1008. Or is $8 too far over your budget that you want to settle for something else? I guess you could always buy three Totos, and get something on sale at Home Depot that will keep you under $1000. You may get lucky and find something that works great for less. Or you may spend $900 for four non-Toto toilets and settle for marginal performance for as long as you are in that home. It's your money, but, it's one thing to save money on a budget brand of toilet paper, and another thing to save it on a plumbing fixture with a very long life. I place a high value on never having had to use a plunger in the 10 years since I installed my Totos, but maybe this won't be an issue for you. Good luck with whatever you choose....

Due to numerous code restrictions raising that horizontal drain line in the wall could prove to be a very difficult undertaking. The simple solution would be to keep the trap where it is and install a longer tailpiece on the sink. Code will allow a maximum 12" vertical tailpiece from the sink drain inlet to the water level in the trap. Typically a lavatory countertop is 32" to 34" high and the sink drain opening is 6" to 8" below the countertop. In the worst case scenario with a 34" countertop and a 6" sink the drain opening would still be 28" above teh floor, and your existing trap is 18" above the floor so a 10" extension tailpiece would be all you require.

Do not install a bottle trap. They are more difficult to install and get right compared to a P-trap because they need to align perfectly with the rest of the plumbing. And, even if you succeed with the install, bottle traps do not meet plumbing code in many jurisdictions.

Thank you for your answers. I'm fine with having the chrome trap show so that isn't really my question but I do appreciate the comments. And yes there's room behind the drawers for the lines so that's not the problem either. I was wondering if anyone had ideas for the best way to handle the water lines - how best to feed the water line pipes up through the shelf - cut lines below shelf or ??? I posted this on Friday after my plumber was closed for the weekend thinking I could get a few helpful ideas before I talked with them on Monday.

The plumber is the one to talk to I am not understanding the question through what shelf do you mean ,the counter ?
