30" Double Oven Gas Range & Range Hood Recommendations

I'm looking to replace this range with a double oven gas range (not sure if I want slide-in or freestanding. I like slide-in a lot more but I don't want to have to do anything to the gap in the granite), and to replace this above range microwave and cabinet with a ducted stainless steel range hood. Can anyone recommend reliable appliances? I would like to stay away from Samsung and LG.

For the hood, I suggest that you start by determining its requirements, which may be derived from the many hood threads on this forum.

In CR's tests LG ranges performed the best but this inexpensive GE JGBS86SPSS performed well enough recommended, among others.

Hi darboydoughboy, When I first got my GE Cafe in November, the cooling fan would turn on at 350 degrees and it did drive me nuts--it was about as loud as the exhaust fan above the stove. After GE installed a new circuit board in an attempt to correct problems with the covection bake, the fan didn't come on until the oven was hotter than 400 degrees. The loudness was still annoying but that was more acceptable to me since most of my cooking and baking would be under 400 degrees (pizza being a big exception). Although the cooling fan was annoying, it would not have given me reason to return the stove. Hope that answers your question. Unfortunately the convection baking issue never was able to be corrected and two subsequent Cafes had physical damage and were never installed so my experience is limited to that one range. Maybe others will be able to give you more info.

We had the Gemini and loved it. We got it when Maytag first came out with them. Like you are planning, we primarily used the smaller oven. The lower oven being low to the ground really wasn't an issue due to the pull out glide racks--it made it so easy to get things in and out of that oven. Whichever range you choose, I would make sure that it has those glide racks in the bottom oven. I bake alot and I had excellent results no matter which oven I used.

Model PGB995SETSS Is there anyone out there that can give me input on this puppy for everyday cooking for my son and sometimes my husband? I have searched and there is not too much info.on appliances forum for these double free standings w/small oven on tops. Some peeps in the kitchen forums liked them, as like me, they don't like to bend over all the time and like a small oven to use everyday. The subject of cooktops vs. free standing ranges came up. I'm remodeling a 12'6" x 15'9" kitchen with three doors and a 49" (38 1/2" of it actual glass, from 1939)and of course a sink w/ window over it. Wall oven and cooktop seem like they'd limit counterspace/storage. Will add island but if anything went there, I'd want it to be prep sink. Some peeps suggested induction cooktops, but I think I like to see the fire and am leery of buying new pans etc. Help?

If your designer says you can fit a 48” range, then you can fit a 36” rangetop and 30” double wall ovens. Note I said *rangetop*, not range and not cooktop. You‘d get everything you need. A 36” wide rangetop will give you 6 burners, yet not need the enormous exhaust and upper wall space of a 48” range. (You’ll still need a good exhaust though, don’t overlook that whatever you do). You’d get your 2 ovens. And they won’t be cavernous 36” ovens that take a while to heat up. And you put your pots and pans in the deep drawers directly under the rangetop (see pic) for great convenience and efficient use of space. And you won’t have to bend down for that low range oven either. Win, win, win, win. Here comes that Thanksgiving turkey or that roast, imagine basting while standing straight. Here are some photos of rangetops in case you aren’t familiar. (P.S. your rangetop and separate double 30” wall ovens do not have to be the same brand.)

I have this KitchenAid range right now and love it - zero issues in five years. I don't love that the control panel is above the range, so I'm replacing it with a GE Cafe

I attached a stainless steel backsplash (example) to the wall between the slide-in range and over-the-range microwave oven.

Thanks @wdccruise, I've seen these but I'm not a huge fan of how they look. I think we might just have to go with a freestanding double oven range, which is less than half the price of the slide-ins that I like. A slide-in will be more appropriate if we were to redo the entire kitchen and add a backsplash.

Also, the GE Profile you linked above looks nice. I was looking at the GE Profile slide-ins and they get some bad reviews, but these reviews look pretty good. I think that one might be a good option for us.

@Sally T question about the KitchenAid - does the oven continue to make noise after you turn it off, while it is cooling down? My parents' KitchenAid oven does that so just curious.
