Dilemma...Inset Window blinds / Double hung windows
Comments (2)I have no idea which windows have what clearance, but if you do have to go with something that's smaller clearance, I can tell you what I did. My windows have 1 3/8 inch within the frame (Anderson). I used 1 inch wood blinds from Bali with an inside mount and 3/8 inch double cellular blinds. The 1 inch wood blinds works as far as the slats go, but the header does stick out, enough that it bothers me and I plan to cover it with a fabric valance. The cellular blinds fit perfectly and I like them much more, they are light weight and very easy to open/close compared to the heavy wood blinds. I have no idea how Roman shades would work. There's no way I could have fit 2" wood blinds on my windows with an inside mount with the clearance I have. I do like an inside mount, hopefully you can find a window set deep enough to let you have the blinds you like!...See MoreQuestion! Type of Kitchen Window (Casement vs. Double Hung)??
Comments (42)We had a similar decision to make except that the casements were to open into a screened porch and we were concerned that while on the porch, people might run into them. We have double hung windows with grills on the top half all throughtout our home but I didn't want my sink centered on a middle piece of wood between two casements. Was just something I didn't personally like for our kitchen. We then saw a similar window to what is in my most recent post which has sliders where the side casements usually are and a large picture window in the middle. WE LOVE IT because it gives us unobstructed view, still has the venting options, screens are on the outside and we felt that having the option of the grills on the side windows, helped it to look more traditional like the rest of the windows in our home....our window is one of the best choices we made - we just love it! I copied my link to my pictures below....you'll see it in the 4th pic down over the sink. Here is a link that might be useful: imlebby's kitchen...See Moresingle hung vs. double hung windows
Comments (14)I had single hung AL frame windows in a home I sold about a year and a half ago. they were ok, even though the house was a single story ranch going out side to wash the windows was a pain... some wiwdows were harder to reach from the ground and I still needed a ladder, plus some had flower beds outside under them. that made it harder since I didn't want to tramp down the flowers. I am starting to replace the old wood double hung windows with double hung windows that tilt in to clean. I really like them I have to say it makes cleaning them very easy and worth the price to me because I hate to clean windows so much. I have never cleaned the old windows in the house I am in now and doubt if I ever will clean any of the old windows before they get replaced since its such a hassle....See MoreNew construction double hung windows, in Maryland
Comments (7)We're getting closer to breaking ground on this project, hopefully early February, so updating my window quotes. Got pricing this past September, screenshot below is the patio door section of the quote. We're doing a 4 panel slider, so a pair of 6'8" by 6" sliders. I'm in Maryland (project is NE of Baltimore, so outside of WoW service area unfortunately) from the company the Okna factory referred me to, which is a company in Pennsylvania. This is a price for the door only. Install will be through our builder/his subs. The Okna dealer has great google reviews, but horrible yelp reviews which gives me pause, even just buying from them. They've also been kind of a pain getting pricing from - maybe they're not as interested in selling windows they don't install? I saw this old thread https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2641193/okna-patio-door-price#n=23 where $2400 8 years ago for an Okna Elegante was considered low at the time, but that price was with install. Is this $1554 price crazy low? Or is this in the realm of normal for just the door, no install? A google search for Maryland Okna Windows turned up another company that's more local (Baltimore suburb) and has a showroom. I spoke with them yesterday and at least got a warm and fuzzy over the phone - will be visiting the showroom this weekend. But I was under the impression Okna has a select dealer network, so I don't understand why the Okna factory didn't also give me their info?...See More- last yearlast modified: last year
