Most common here is centre window fixed with two openers on the side being double hung or casement.

I'd decrease the rough opening a bit if you want double hung, and match all three. I doubt the loss will make that much difference: ) to light or view. You're after a traditional feel, yes?

Not saying you can't do it......I like the match. Hate a picture effect in the middle, though it is common.

For a mid century modern or contemporary, and several other styles, a middle picture window is typical. For a colonial or cape cod or something more historic, three identical windows is better. What style is the rest of your house? Picture from outside?

I think for this to work the center window has to be distinctly wider, and these may be too close in size to do that. If you can I would shrink the opening 6" on each side to do three equal windows.

I need to know more about the space and your style and also why only one choice of brand.

Thanks to all for the advice. The style is an old New England barn. I am turning top floor into apartment. This would be the front with big barn doors below. After much thought I think I could get away with a larger middle but it's not ideal. Will probably infill RO and go with 3 even windows.

Good call. Frankly? May look even better with separation, rather than butted. .....hard to say without a drawing or picture.

If you really want a New England style appearance and are willing to pay extra for it, I highly recommend their divided light option for the grills. It really classes the place up from the outside.  Get full divided light if you can for the ground floor, but simulated is probably ok from a second story. I ended up getting full for all windows. It really looks great from the outside.

@kl23, did you do FDL on 400 series Tilt Wash or 400 series Woodwright? Do you have a photo you'd be willing to share? Would love to see, if so.

Well, they tilt in to wash, but I don't remember that name. I don't know that this photo shows what you want. I have cheap blind inside. The dark bronze windows are mine. The white windows are a neighbor 's and they do not have the divided light.

Thank you, @kl23. Your windows do look great! The Full Divided Light (FDL) as Andersen calls it (others call it Simulated Divided Light (SDL) with spacer bar) is very attractive. It looks like maybe your neighbors window has Grills Between Glass. I appreciate you sharing these photos. I have had a couple people question my desire for 6 over 6 FDL or SDL with spacer bar (I hear, "oh, so you want to clean 24 rectangles between inside and out, per window!") but I really like the look and we have a traditional cape so 6 over 6 is appropriate. Thank you, again.

The neighbors have what we used to, the plastic pop in and pop out grills just on the inside. It was ok, but these are so much nicer.

Winston1man, the house has been abandoned since the owner died and his son didn't accept the debt/property. Fannie mae owns it. The property manager started fixing it. People broke in a squatted and dealt drugs out of it for half a year. Finally got them evicted. If they don't repair the roof right away, we neghbors are not going to be happy. It's been a difficult time.
