Wallpaper for small ensuite

last year

Looking to add wallpaper to an ensuite on the main floor. It is relatively small so not sure if too much pattern will be an issue (about 4” by 6’ by 10’ ceilings). Main hallway is painted in Perspective CSP-5 (light grey). Curious what kind of wallpaper folks would recommend here?

I need to know that too. If a PR not connected to a bedroom IMO you can go a bit crazy .

Whatever the room, I'd add some color and/or pattern. Right now it's a blank slate--you can do anything you like.

Here are some bathrooms with beautiful wallpapers. Most all of them have neutral colored fixtures and tiles as a backdrop. You can also use the wallpaper as an inspiration for colors for accessories, like towels and window treatments.

I'd have the valve located where the others have mentioned, where you can open the door and turn on the water without having to step into or reach through the shower head flow. If required for space, I'd consider moving the niche deeper into the shower so the valve can be closer to the door. I'd recommend having the rain head centered on your short wall. It can be centered or a few inches deeper into the shower on your long wall. I'd place two can lights in the ceiling, offset on either side of the rain head. I wouldn't use a built-in bench, or a built-in foot rest. I'd rather have a movable 3-legged stool. A stool can be used as a footrest, or pull it in the middle to sit under the rainhead, or if it drives you buggers move it out of the shower completely. Though I make them out of teak, they can be purchased too. Wood is usually more comfortable on skin than tile.

How important is en-suite bath in master bedroom?

Some people really want/need an en-suite bathroom. Some people would like one, but can live without it if everything else--location, price, other amenities--fits their needs. Some people really don't care either way. And some people really don't want one. So if you buy this condo, you have eliminated the "really want/need" folks from your potential buyers and renters. But you still have a fairly large pool of potential renters and buyers to draw from. If you add the shower to the downstairs bathroom, I think you will make the condo attractive to non-related renters--three grad students, say. Do other units in the building have en-suite bathrooms? If so, then not having one could be a liability. But if there are other units without one, and the building itself is a desirable place to live, then you should be fine. You might have to lower your asking price to draw people in, but that would be the main drawback that I can see.

Have you considered having an entry to the closet from the bathroom? I’ve owned 12 homes (all primary residences as I’ve been relocated a lot for work in the past) and 4 of them had that layout and personally I would never consider going back to the layout where one would need to leave the bathroom and go back into the bedroom to enter the closet to get dressed after showering. It sounds like a small thing, but it makes a big difference, especially if one spouse is sleeping while the other one is getting ready in the morning.

Wow, Diana Biers has given you some great inspiration photos. It looks like yours is a powder room since there doesn't seem to be a tub or shower. Powder rooms are the place to go a little crazy with color, pattern and texture!

Thanks Norwood! Most of the photos came from my Ideabook "Powder Rooms." I love wallpaper and think it looks great above tile or wainscot on the lower part of a room. It's also relatively easy to change if you tire of it.

" En Suite" implies a private access to a bedroom, with bathing capability. What is IN that bedroom if it is that?

We don't use that term for access to a hallway , especially if that is the ONLY access. That's usually a powder room, but it COULD have a shower,

Which is it ? Either way? Please dear lord, something OTHER than gray !

In that case, the skies the limit. Start thinking about what you personally like. Floral, geometric, large pattern, small pattern. What colors do you prefer?

My wife seems to have fallen for the Zoffany one. Trying to see if I can locate it in Toronto…though I’m guessing it will be an expensive paper!

Wow. Didn’t realize wallpaper got that expensive. Was hoping to find things in the $50-75 a roll range. Maybe I can find a very similar paper from a less expensive supplier.

Fall out of love w/ the Zoffany. It is only 20 inches wide. Meaning a lot !!! of seams on top of the expense.

It's not that great, for the money. Not that great with the flooring either. SORRY: )

I'd skip the silvery /gray thing. But.....at least get some movement..softness against the more mannish/geometric feel of the powder : ) and nice to acknowledge the dark of the vanity in a minimal way.

The light could be better, and the mirror a bit....less square/hard.

Point is ? Don't select online, if possible. You're in love W/ Zoffany as part of the WHOLE of the bath you are seeing: ) in the inspo

Look at Phillip Jeffries, too. Many of their wallcoverings are commercial width, up to 52 wide. Minimal seams.

Hello Stephen-

Check out this classic look by Farrow & Ball - https://www.farrow-ball.com/en-us/wallpaper/lotus?sku=5029496660715. I think your neutral color palette and strong geometric and contemporary lines could use some movement and softer vibes to balance all of the right angles in the vanity and mirror. There are two color ways that work with your existing color palette or you could go more moody and bold with a soft black/warm beige colorway. The large scale makes this work with your contemporary elements, but the classic lotus pattern makes it a great transitional background to appeal to more buyers in the future. Great luck!

If wall paper is too expensive why not try stencils I love a dark wall color and silver or gold leaf done with a stencil .

Thanks all. Regarding the cost of wallpaper, it’s fine…but the Zoffany one on the link was US$227 a roll I think? Which after shipping would be c$350 or so … seemed a bit ridiculous! Will have a look at the other options.
