Are these chairs too rustic/distressed for my Yellow Kitchen?
Comments (117)You must have heard me wondering this morning what you had decided! I like it. They look great! I agree about the fabric, it blends well with the other upholstery. But, when it gets worn, the yellow will look good too -- make sure you buy enough to do the job (and make repairs to the banquette if needed) now while it is still available....See Morewhite kitchen cabinets/cherry island/ what countertops?
Comments (8)Well, I do think there is a problem with that pic you linked, jama. The inspiration island and your virtual feel like furniture to me, quite fine. While I always think of function first, in this case, the BB gives me a sense of disconnect. I also wonder about the BB getting used and more rustic looking over time, thus widening the gap in formality. Personally, I don't agree with the decorator about the piece looking odd without wood. I am trying to see his/her point but I just can't. Did this person give you a reason why? If the pronouncement cannot be backed up with some kind of explanation, I tend to move on. You mentioned in the first post that you can't do soap stone because the room is too small. I would not rule that out just yet. Another way to look at the "too-small" issue is to think in terms of avoiding busy-ness. I would consider avoiding the highly speckled granites or things with lots of movement. Unless you love the look, that mid-tone speckled granite on BP's first and last big pics is what I am talking about. (Thanks BP for providing all the illustrations!) If you go for a more serene look, you may be able to pull off a darker color. Using one material for both perimeter and island, you'll have fewer changes and that may also be better in a small space. I have seen very small kitchens done in dark colors that are just smashing. Think jewelbox. I happen to love the dark island with the dark glossy top in one of the pics above. Then, you could do marble on the backsplash. (I would like to see you have your honed marble!) In fact, I would encourage you to go fall in love with some marble backsplash tile and then revisit the countertop decision....See MoreVery. Late. Reveal. Small, rustic, white oak kitchen. Pic Heavy
Comments (137)So I'm a year late in commenting but SO happy I got to see this amazing kitchen, thanks to the "best reveals" thread. I followed this with interest and worried a little, you seemed so ambitious in including a gazillion good ideas and I wasn't sure it would lead to a cohesive, attractive result. It is a stunning kitchen, full of beauty and functionality but it is more than that, you've infused it with depth and soul. Congratulations!...See MoreWhite and gray kitchen with rustic brown tones family room?
Comments (17)We had lots of inspiration pictures from Houzz, but these 3 pictures from the same house helped to guide us the best. This is the living room of the Inspiration House. You can see there are warm tones especially with the rocked fireplace, wood floors, and furniture, but also there's some white cabientry and trim, and light paint colors to lighten things up. We didn't care for the yellow accents and chose rusty orange and blue for our accents. This is the other side of the same house. You can see that the sectional sofa is a deep mushroom color rather than just brown. You can see the dining room has a brown table and a black lighting fixture. Then you can see a white kitchen beyond. This is the kitchen in the same house. This kitchen has whiter counters than what we chose. But it is similar with white cabinets, stainless appliances, dark counter stools, dark metal on the pendants. It's fancier and bigger than ours. No room for an island in ours, we lowered the bar height penninsula and made it a flat penninsula with the Taj Mahal Quartzite. This is the color palette we used in my Dad's remodel. We were totally in charge of this remodel, so I put together this board for my Dad so he could see/approve what we were planning. Here is what I showed him: We haven't purchased the Pottery Barn Swivel barrel chair yet and will probably go darker than the leather sample shown here. It can be done. You just might have to carefully consider your paint and fabric/rug choices to make it all come together. Here is the reveal I posted after we finished the project. At the time of this posting a lot of the art was not back up yet, so it looks a little bare. My user name has changed because my email changed and then DD was setting up ideabooks for herself and changed my name for some unknown reason and I never changed it back. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5647113/reveal-of-whole-house-remodel#n=11 Good luck!...See MoreNorwood Architects
