Painted kitchen and family room gray, need help with cabinets!
Comments (14)Thank you guys so much for the feedback. We're totally leaning towards repainting with a warmer gray or beige. Camouflage might be nice, any other recommendations for something that's classic and also can work with the slightly yellow cabinets and backsplash? Comments (33)Thank you all again for the wonderful feedback! Here are some answers to the questions: @AGK2003 - the white cabinets are BM White Dove @gabytx12 - I am not sure who makes the floor, it was unfinished red oak flooring and then we had it sanded and refinished along with the entire first floor to be the same color - which is a Nutmeg stain color. @pricklypearcactus - Here is one picture I took quickly with my iPhone today of the transition from kitchen to family room. I am sorry for the lighting and mess, but yes, we do have a step down between the rooms and this was a huge issue to overcome but we love how this bar area ties the spaces together. There was a lot of thought and debate that went into dealing with the cabinetry sizes/layout for both uppers and lowers, how much overhang, etc. Luckily we had an amazing cabinet maker that helped us work it out! FWIW I originally wanted the bar cabinets to the edge of the kitchen floor for the transition into the family room; but now that small area of flooring has been great as an extra place to put your feet. We also have the back side of the cabinets paneled with one cabinet opening into the family room. So we tried to make it as pleasing as possible visually and functional as well! I will try to get some additional up close / detailed pictures together to post soon....See MoreGrey kitchen or grey and white?
Comments (8)I don't like the different colored upper/lower look in many kitchen, but I do think two toned would look good in your kitchen if you did the tall cabinets and fridge in white (or very light grey), the island and lowers in a darker grey or maybe blue/grey. Alternatively, I think varying just the island would work well too. Of course, you can always due everything the same too, in which case I'd look at a blue/grey or light grey. I did my kitchen with a very light grey perimeter (it was initially intended to be SW repose grey but turned out a bit lighter when color matched to the conversion varnish) and a stained grey island and tall cabinet/appliance wall. Happy with how it turned out. Comments (70)cdisimone - I have very similar color cabinets and granite in my kitchen except my backsplash is lighter and floors are very dark porcelain, wood look tile. I've been looking for a color that will work throughout the majority of my house too. After weeks of deliberating, I started with my dining room and painted Shoji White last night. Not sure I like it....it does not look warm or creamy in my house at all. It looks like a very light cool gray. :-( I was going more for a warm white so I can brighten things up but still have the warm, cozy feel. I'm going to give it a few days before continuing on through the rest of my house. My suggestion is to paint an entire wall or much larger sample on your wall before deciding!...See Morecpartist
