Need Help with Exterior Shutter Color Please!
Comments (21)Do not paint the shutters red! It would give you too much of a red checker-board look or the old rural farm house look where every roof and piece of trim is painted red. I don't mean that in a bad way, because I love that look - sometimes - in the right setting. Your house has an older, established country estate look with the beautiful grounds and surroundings. I like the darker look of the shutters, but on my monitor, I can't tell what color they are - are they black, brown, charcoal, the color of the roof??? If the red door works for you, I would add lots of red in your landscaping. I can pots of red geraniums on your steps and big colorful pots of flowers flanking the doors. You have a beautiful home....See MoreHelp!! Exterior door, handles, and shutter color advice
Comments (2)Dark blue, black and brown are not “pops of color” in my book! But maybe they are in yours. But you definitely need to get the brick taken care of first: the shutters kept the brick from aging as much as the exposed brick. I think there’s a special cleaning method for brick—make sure you use a reputable company. Are you painting the siding? If that’s the front door, it definitely needs a more impressive entrance. Probably a more substantial portico with new light. New house numbers (stylish ones) and a new mailbox (if that’s in use).....See MoreExterior Color Help! Need shutter Color!
Comments (5)Pretty house! I actually like the current siding color and think Oyster Bay would look good, too. The current siding color is nice with your roof color, and OB would also work. The black shutters look good and so would Iron Ore. Kind of win-win for you IMO. :-)...See MoreDated exterior needs help. how would you update porch, columns etc.?
Comments (8)I would suggest adding a wide band of trim just above where the tops of the columns meet the wall. This should give the illusion of a beam being supported by the columns. The columns seem a bit undersized. I think I would replace them but instead of plain square columns I would give them a brick base with a brick or stone cap. I "might" suggest painting the entire house the same color - brick and siding but you should really give some thought to that. Once painted, brick can never be unpainted. It is a lovely house and a great lot. I LOVE the mature trees. Good luck!...See Moredecoenthusiaste
