Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

Exterior Color Help! Need shutter Color!

Please help!

It has taken us forever to decide what color to paint our house. We've finally settled on SW 6206 Oyster Bay. Now, we are stuck on shutter colors. I have so many samples, I think my husband's going to go crazy. Black (Tricorn black) seems too stark. Ripe Olive too green. Retreat & Pewter Green too light. Iron Ore is our favorite thus far. Any input would be so valuable!

Attached (bottom photo) is a photo of our house from a month ago (when we were considering white with black shutters) as well as a few other photos of homes painted "Oyster Bay." There's also a link to SW's "Oyster Bay" information.

Believe it or not, I prefer your unshuttered windows. Double windows don't need them, and then you have long and short windows so it just feels a bit choppy to me. Hope you painted behind them so you can just pull them off and not worry about it.

Shutters don't always have to be darker than the body of the house. I would select a white for the shutters.

Thanks Cara. I also agree that if we have shutters they should be on all of the windows. Our elevation only had the 3 windows that we have with shutters and the builder would not add shutters to the two windows on the left. I also agree with the front steps. In hind-sight I wish we would have had them done in brick. We still may have the fronts veneered in the brick. The only issue I have with doing stained wood shutters is the up-keep. From others I have seen, they start to show signs of weathering quite quickly.

Thank you all so much for your comments! Just to clarify... I have black louvered shutters on all windows on the front of the house (as shown in the 2nd photo). The first photo shows how it looks since we have removed a few shutters for repair and paint prep. I have seen a lot of tone on tone or lighter colored shutters and began wondering if my black w/white siding on top of multi-color old brick looked too dated. The back of the house has 4 casement windows (upper) and 2 lower. We have never had shutters on these. I noticed that my photos - front and back yard - look almost mirror-image! But that was just a coincidence. Thanks again to you all! Picking out paint colors is tougher than it looks! :)

Regarding door style, I would choose one that mimics the lites/glass in your windows. A few examples... Carriage lights sound nice for the detached garage. A door with windows would also be nice. I like the white. White or black for the front door would work, but white would give it more presence. Paint the downspouts to blend with the brick. Your brick with some white and black is classic and nice, like this...

Pretty house! I actually like the current siding color and think Oyster Bay would look good, too. The current siding color is nice with your roof color, and OB would also work. The black shutters look good and so would Iron Ore. Kind of win-win for you IMO. :-)

What a lovely home. I like it with shutters.

I have a color similar to yours and used a dark green. I like Roycroft Bottle Green. It does't have the olive tone you don't like. I also like two dark grays below.

I personally don't like how outdoor plantings appear placed in front of the green color you have selected for your home. I would g in this direction.
